#14 Sregan – Broken Ribs (MNG)
#14 Sregan – Smashed Knee (NI)
Dear Vanyar,

For the first time in two long campaigns on the shores on Middle Earth it pains me that this letter will be hand delivered, for we have returned home.

Attrition from the ravages of the vicious Mordor demons has left us little choice but to return and recruit reinforcements for a third campaign.

A third and successive failure came about at the hands of our Mordor Nemesis, the vile and evil Minions of the Swamp.

Knowing that they would enlist the services of the vampire counts we again acquired the talents of Gandalf and purchased a mercenary with what we had left, a bold move given our injury list, but one that was deemed necessary to progress in what was our last opportunity to secure a ring.

As fearsome as the Minions looked, even they metamorphosed into something far more sinister when they immediately took out the referee so that their carnage could go unchecked.

We received first and hoped to remove one of their expert foulers… however, seemingly we were unable to do anything other than push some corpses around for the first half. Residing that we would be unable to put even a zombie to ground let alone be able to take out any key players, we reverted to what we knew best and dodged our way around the field… at least we excelled at this.

Our mercenary was quickly dispatched, but a failed dodge by the count then left us in a position to stall… which we did despite the fouls coming thick and fast, till the last quarter of the half at which point we could hold the horde no longer.

The Minions were to receive next, and a crowd invasion, followed by a badly hurt player and a KO’d player from the LOS left us with few men to defend with. The Minions however left their Ghoul vulnerable and two of our men went in to try and free the ball… again, we could not tackle him to the ground. The overcommitted attempt left us now vulnerable to an easy score for the Minions.

We still had one chance to score in the dying seconds, and with our great ability at pushing the Zombies around we might be able to now use it to our advantage… however, the Gods have a great sense of humour, and despite two gang blocks to push the Zombie into position we could do nothing but splat him!!!

By the second half we were looking sore, despite the Minions relatively weak fouls. Again, from the kick off players were removed, and very soon players were leaving the field in droves as the merciless Zombies cruelly hacked at us whilst the officials continued to turn a blind eye, obviously still shaken from the first half.

Opportunities of taking the count out were looking to never come so Gandalf was called in. He managed to remove the Count’s Guards but failed to take him down. Nevertheless, we blitzed the Count with some assistance, but failed to take him down… that concluded our attempts, and we were quickly reduced to 3 men by the horde, with our star defensive thrower, Sregan, suffering a career ending injury which the apothecary was unable to save him from.

Alas, the game ended 2 – 1, and our Campaign concluded in utter failure.

Regretfully yours,
Tarius

With few players to start the game, 12 with a booter, against a few fearsome MBs and a couple of DPs I knew I’d be out manned soon enough and would have to take any opportunity that arose to steal TDs.

I had hoped to get some fouls in on key players, such as the mummies and Wotfuds star wight, but even after using RRs to try and put them down on occasions I could only get push backs. Where I failed to block in the first half I made up for it with good dodging though and managed to stall when the count snaked a dodge and got left behind.

I had another shot at a 2d on the Ghoul at the end of the first half to stop the score which failed and a fireball followed by 2d blitz v a blodge enabled Count… and that really does sum up the whole of my chances, which amounts to little in the scheme of things against an excellent opponent playing his team very well.

Another solid performance for the Undead… I hope to beat them next season. :)

Good and enjoyable game as always, with the funniest point of the game coming from my one turn attempt that after a half of push backs I then seemed unable to roll a single one in 6 dices when needed (3d Block, re-rolled). :P

grats Wotfudboy.

#12 Murky Marsh – Dead (RIP)
The Return of the King II - Round 1

The Undead are still trying to get through their cash... and one way to burn it is to hire the Count for tough opponents.

My team has been accussed of being very bashy, but the stats simply haven't supported that theory so far... This game however looked at the end like I had trashed Sera's team, which really wasn't the case if you watch the replay.

The game started off with me hiring the Count, and Sera hiring a freebooter catcher and a wizard... and Sera received.

They managed to get around my defence, and deep into my back field, but gradually the undead applied pressure to make the high elf score. in about turn 6. This didn't give me long to get a reply. The game had started with Sera getting pushbacks on seemingly everything, and luck was going my way, but a failed dodge by the count to blitz the ball carrier was my undoing.

The danger at this point for me was that the half would end 0-1 to the elves and I would have the ball in the 2nd half only to get blasted by a Wizard, the elves pick up and score a 2nd. I had to be very careful to avoid this... Furthermore Overttime was on my side... if I could keep the ball and get 1-1 I would have a good chance in Overtime to score.

Fortunately for me I made it 1-1 in the 1st half, and Sera's efforts to one turn me failed.

2nd half was a case of me getting the ball, watching out for the wizard, and taking out as many elves as possible in case of overtime. Sera thought I was being evil, but any fouls I landed were very soft indeed, apart from one, which resulted in a niggle, which the apoth failed on. I stopped fouling at that point, as even I'm not that cruel! :)

The wizard was eventually used but failed to dislodge the ball from the Counts grasp... my tactic was to pile the points on to the count as I didn't want to skill up my 2 ag4 ghouls too fast... especially as I feared ageing!

The game finished 2-1 with me getting high elven casualties. I think Sera may regret spending all that cash instead of buying players... but hey... I have had the same in other tournaments too! It's a risk you have to take to go for the short term win!

Fortunately for me both my mummy and wight skilled up without ageing. It was a tough game, against a tricky opponent, but we made it! 70k helps for a count another time!

Cheers for the game!
