Game 49

Schola won the toss and decided to receive first, intending to get into the blood part of bloodbowl immediately. 2 BH on the first turn was a good start for that, with the Ogre and a Lineman out for the rest of the game. An easy Turn 6 TD followed, with 4 BH and 2 KO being inflicted in the process. On turn 8 of the second half the Norse pulled an upset, with a lucky push knocking the ball clear where it was easily picked up and passed to a badly covered receiver who trotted it over the line for a 1-1 score at half time.

The Norse team setup to receive, but unintentionally left the middle open, allowing the Chaos team to get a TZ on the ball carrier. A failed pass that would have got the ball almost into the clear let Schola pounce on it for an easy 2-1. Nuffle had something to say about this though, with 1 failed catch from pushing the ball, 1 failed sure hands pickup in the clear, and 2 failed pickups in the clear, along with some lucky dodges and block dice from the Norse. Not able to do anything right, Schola had to make do with a Draw against the plucky Norse. The game, where Stalingrad capitalized well on any good luck through good positioning, was very well fought, and one of the closest in coach Quod's memory.

A tough game for the White Stallions, but I'm very proud of the effort they put in. I have to say this was one of my most mentally exhausting games I've played. After the game I was on empty.

The game started badly for me, with the worst handicap I could have wished for gtr2, without a dirty player, losing the toss and losing 4 players by the end of turn 2.

Electing to make a real fist of that defensive drive was also a big mistake as I lost lots of key players. The team got really lucky however when they got an equaliser late on in the first. A 1 d block resulting in a pow and an extremely favourable bull push freed up Stalingrad's thrower Torshak Ciaglinska, to throw to Samul Thorstenitz for a shock equaliser.

The 2nd half, the youngsters were outclassed and soon started to lose position. A risky coaching decision to allow the chaos players to get close to the ball carrier only to swap wings and possibly break clear failed. And then the melee started.

Stalingrad were now in a real battle. All their hardfort work to get on even terms was heading for nothing. The tactic to put most of the block pressure on Schola's 2 best ball carriers however paid off and both left the field, but with a numerical, skill and positional advantage, holding on was going to be difficult.

Running out of time the chaos made a break for it in turn 6. However there was a window of opportunity left open to blitz the ball carrier. The young guns again, went beyond what can be asked of them, by working as a unit making the covers before the ball carrier was frenzied off the pitch.

Now panic set in on both teams as the ball careered into the centre of the white stallions half. Stalingrad were the first to make a grab for it but failed. The next turn the chaos machine rolled forward, cleared the area around the ball but also failed to pick up. With 1 turn to go and there best 2 ball carriers of the pitch and no re rolls left, this touchdown was no longer a sureity!

The norses last turn sure a tired battered unit do the best they could. Putting cover on the ball and surrounding players, but when a weary looking lineman tripped, it looked all over. The chaos players again skillfully cleared the area around the ball, the norse could do nothing but watch, as a beastman swooped in to pick up the ball and step over the line. Alas this ball didn't want to be touched, and squeezed out of his hair palms one more time. The whistle sounded, with that yet another amazing Stalingrad game came to an end.

Twahnlow votes:

Dominus Rex - Who fought off a niggling injury to cause max destruction.
Dominus Dues III - Jealous of his counterpart put in as much effort as possible, but came just shy on the destruction front.
Carnero - Who forgot to put the steel caps in his boots.
