“A close fought match with an odd, though personally fortunate, ending.
Late in the second half the ball was still near mid-field, a few squares into my territory but on the ground. I had an oppotunity to put the game out of reach, but I stupidly failed to realize that the target of one of my ancillary blocks was STR 4 instead of 3.
This highlights two issues, both of importance. First is the need to check your action before you execute it. But of more significance, and a constant failing on my part, is to make sure you do actions in the right order!
At any rate, after failing that block his scoring seemed assured. However, he choose to stall at the end (perfectly acceptable, given that it was late in the game), but then on his last turn he attempted some unnecessary blocks and eventually fell down. This robbed him of his chance to score.
A close game, and one where, through luck, I did not have to pay for my stupidity. A win is a win, but this one should have been a tie.”
