“Albion Regional Challenge 01/09 - round 2

The Manchester Undead Fumbbl Club waited in the 2nd round of the Albion Regional Challenge. An undead team with two dp's, a buzzed up mummy and a real skink hunter in the mb tackle blodger Anderson.

Gothem Geckos was in turn well equipped to deal with the opponents ghouls through their two tackle sauruses, but pouring rain dampened their chances of having much ball handling.

The Geckos started with the ball, precious time allready wasted due to a Beast of Nurgle infecting a whole section of the crowd with his vicious diseases. When the match finally got started the Geckos pushed forward, but had to use their apothecary almost immediately to save the life of Lichicc, who would otherwise have been gangfouled to death.

Things quickly turned for the better though, when the feared Anderson badly injured himself on a failed dodge. In the momentum the sauruses sent out 2 zombies. With a numerical advantage the bashers could box in the opponents and the skinks could position themselves for a nice stall at the end zone line. Another tackler was dealt with when the wight Michael Carrick got his hand badly smashed in the skirmish.

Towards the end of the half some sloppy defense let a ghoul through for a tackle on the ball carrier. Fortunately it didn't amount to anything more than to push the skink to a TD.

G_Force took his chance during the last moments before the half to line up a gangfoul on the kroxigor Huanhuan, and one of the dirty zombies managed to snap his neck with his boot. Fortunately it looks like Huanhuan will recover from the injury and the reduced mobility won't hurt him much in the long run. But his absence during the match and in the final will cost the team.

In the second half the weather changed and the sun broke through the clouds, beaming with light. The Geckos seemed ill effected by it and through fouls and bashing two sauruses got knocked out early. The Geckos had now lost the edge in the bashing game.

Fortunately a catastrophic block by a zombie (2d block resulted in 2 skulls, re-rolled to 2 skulls) halted what looked like a scoring drive for the undead. Skinks flowed from all over the field to surround and tie down the ball carrying ghoul. Meanwhile the dp zombie was bashed out and Kroxhex managed to knock out the ST 4 ghoul Ji-sung Park on a both down block.

The undead had a hard time shaking the skinks and eventually one of the saurus tacklers could break in and blitz him down. Chiquet fumbled his pick-up on what would have been a scoring drive, but unfortunately the ball was tied down and in the last moments of the match it was handed back to him so he could run in 2-0.

A great, although quite fortunate, win for the Geckos! They will now anxiously await their opponents in the final. How will the Geckos manage without the presence of the mighty Huanhuan?
