I should have written this a while ago, but better late than never.

I can't bring myself to watch the replay for yet a 2nd time, but I will go from memory and my opponents match report.

The first thing that hurt me, as Pirog mentioned, was that I was down to 10 players. I think I had 1 missing from a previous game and maybe one of my nigglers wimped out. Whatever the reason, I had no reserves and these goblins quickly took advantage of it.

The second thing that hurt me was my Dark Elves Armor checks. You would have thought I was playing crippled Wood Elves or Norse geriatrics the way they were getting sent off the pitch left and right. Most were simply KOs, but even those hurt as my opponent continued to gain a numberical advantage on the pitch. On top of the poor Armor rolls, some of those KOs took a while to get back into the game. Maybe they hurt their psyches and were afraid to face the goblins again. More likely they were afraid to face the crowd. The goblins themselves proved quite resilient to my attempts to remove them from the pitch after the first scoring drive.

The final thing that spelled my doom was the inkies' inability to accomplish much at any task requiring Agility. Apart from a successful score in the 1st half, they were missing dodges and ball pick-ups more than you would expect from elves. Or maybe you coaches of elven teams no exactly what I'm talking about :) My 2 rerolls were simply not enough to last the half, and Pirog was able to score twice on me.

The goblins were fouling like they had the ref, even though they actually didn't. It would have been funny if it weren't so pathetic to watch 4 consecutive fouls that finally resulted in a Badly Hurt that I used my apothecary on in turn 7. I did it simply to deny him the satisfaction of clearing the last player from the pitch. That poor lineman spent 3-4 turns standing up and trying to move away from Diving Tacklers only to end every turn face down on the pitch. Meanwhile, the ref must have had his head buried in the latest copy of the "Karond Chimeraes" calendar (cheerleading squad of the Manticores) because he didn't blow the whistle one time.

Pirog played a solid match and I think he was almost as surprised as I was at how easily he elf-handled my team. I was disappointed in my performance but it was still a fairly enjoyable match and a learning experience.

Middenheim Challenge 02/09 - round 1
------------------------------------------------------
This will be a tale told by the (few) surviving Organized Konfusion players in their old years. The odds didn't look good when the team was drawn against dark elves in the first round of the Middenheim Challenge. The opponents had a well composed teams and even a scary ST 4 blitzer, but was down to 10 men from the start. The process of thinning down their numbers even further was the only way to go.

The match started good with the Manticors dirty player fouled out on the first turn after missing a dodge and a lineman KO'd right after. The Manticores had put a cage on the left flank, but it was in big danger of getting boxed in. Unfortunately the trolls were completly useless in this match. Grom put up a double skull block which gave the dark elves momentum to break through.

While the trolls kept making awful moves and failing desperate GFI's the goblins were starting to get sent off from kicks and punches. Big Mouf and Belsibub was badly injured during the first quarter of the match.

The Manticores scored in T6, but they were now down to 8 players and despite the casualties Organized Konfusion could still field a full 11 players. The strategy was to set up an AG 4 TTM, but Grom failed his RS roll twice, so it ended up in a breakthrough. Odd swiftly cut through the dark elves defensive lines and handed the ball off to Grog who ran it in during the last turn of the first half.

Awful KO rolls for the Manticores gave Organized Konfusion a great chance for the 2nd half. They started with the ball and had a full team, but the Manticores were now down to 7 men, missing both their dirty player and the ST 4 blitzer.

Just like during the first half it was the goblins that performed, while the trolls were largely useless. While Surly kept the ball safe the rest of the team picked off the dark elves one at a time. Murda stood for a heroic effort and removed 3 players with his dive tackle skill and the rest fell to the pointy ends of fouling boots. In the end Organized Konfusion would have cleared the pitch if the opponent didn't use his apothecary.

During the onslaught Surly handed the ball over to Odd so he could score the winning TD.

A great victory for Organized Konfusion! They will not face either dwarves or chaos dwarves in round 2, but at least they have all players in shape and money to spend on dirty tricks!

Thanks for the match, Flashback!
