Epic Struggle (TM)

First half the Legion received, in more ways than one. Back on our heels instantly, we struggled to knock stuff over, and after 3 turns luck was something like 33/69 in favor of the Sewer-dwellers. Knockouts happened, chainsaws didn't start, and a fireball targetting 4 players (only 1 with AG4) including the ball carrier and Dugga Lon, missed everything.

The first half ended with a 1-0 score.

The second half Dugga Lon continued to harass my team, threatening at every turn to make us look like wood elves with no armor. But with control of the ball and my spiffy 6/4/5/9 blitzer carrying it, I managed ok.

Of course, when things start looking ugly and the carrier gets flushed from the general area that used to be a cage, ST4 doesn't go as far (though I did KO Dugga Lon on my way out). I got knocked down at the sideline and lost the ball to the crowd. The last several turns were spent scrambling and clawing to just BARELY score in the final turn to force OT, and that's where the real fun begins.

I kick off, and don't feel great about it. There are 3 gutters on the pitch (2 had been waiting safely on the bench all game) but no Dugga Lon! I set up a little conservatively to try to contain a breakaway. My SF blitzer gets himself fouled/KOed on T1 (err, T17) and my troll gets pushed into a crowd of my own guys by The Experiment, who managed to put himself in 5 tackle zones.

Out of rerolls, Gargunki ends up with half a turn from skull/skull, and it opens the way for me to pressure the ball. I blitz my way up to the ball carrier with Samuro, and with no rerolls left, his Tackle is a turnover threat to the Sewers. When my badass troll, Rokhan injures the Sewer's stormvermin, Gargunki apo's the BH so he can blitz the carrier free of Samuro's TZ. Silly troll, he didn't follow up and mark the stormvermin.

My very next move was to bring over my DP gobbo and End The Experiment. The crowd went wild.

In the end, the gutter got free and I scrambled to splatter him, but just knocked him down, needing a frenzied 2db a regular 2db, then my last reroll to finally find a POW. A scrum ensued at the goal line, which I sort of won, but couldn't secure the ball, which flew errantly to the ground near Samuro at midfield. Another scrum ensued there, and on T24, a gutter runner grabbed the ball from a tackle zone, dodged out (Tackle negating his Dodge) and made a short pass to secure the win.

It was a shame to lose. Probably even more of a shame since Gargunki's chances in the next round look grim. Schlachtabfall is an even more brutal squad of orcs than my Legion, and From the Sewer is in pretty rough shape right now. He took 4 permanent injuries in the game and looks to be going in down about 60 TS.

GL Gargunki. You earned the hell outta that one and paid the price to get it. Look me up after the tourney for a rematch ;)

I gotta post with a long recap here on what is probably the most fun game I've played in a looooong time.

Handicaps: Duh, where am I? (Samuro), Doom & Gloom. Not the best handis, but not the worst. What was good was that every niggled player (Samuro, Dugga Lon and The Experiment) showed up for this epic match. Even though 3 solid players were out for the Legion (or I woulda had no chance.)

The Legion lost the toss so even better for me. The first 3 turns are a laugher as the Rats out-number the Orcs 11-7 at one point. Dugga Lon and The Experiment combine for KOs, I even get a boot into the Bonehead prone Samuro KOing him, and blitz Nobbla off the field. Add in the biggest Epic Wiz Fail in tournament history (maybe) and I'm feeling quite cocky.

Around turn 6 in my stall tactic things go awry. I re-rolled block dice seeking a POW like a moron and Dugga Lon KO's himself with double skullz. A rookie linerat dies, my sure-hands gutter is Frenzy surfed and the Legion take control of the ball as the crowd throws it back in!

I am able to get the ball back however and coach maysrill misclicks not putting a TZ on my ball carrier and I walk into the endzone untouched. phew!

In reply Gurbly Turdrat is niggled on a foul but the orc DP is sent off on a 6 by the ref. 1-0 rats at the half.

2nd half
--------

That git Nobbla has somehow managed to avoid ejection (twice!) and takes the field... and only 1 orc is still in the KO box... time to weather the storm...

The Legion cage it up quickly but my wiz comes through and allows Dugga Lon to blitz the ball free from Samuro (his 2nd shot at him yet fails again to get through the armour of the freakish orc). The ball seems intent to scatter into the largest concentration of orc TZs despite my best attempts to chain-push it free with the Experiment. So I put a boot into the Legion Troll, Rokhan... BH regens (this is big later)... but off the field none the same.

Nobbla gets a wack at Dugga Lon with the saw but only stuns, the DP gobbo kicks him to no avail and is promptly KOed for his insolence, followed by a BH Nobbla. Tackling linerats FTW! Dugga Lon kills Saurfang with a vicious block but the Apo saves!

Samuro gets the ball back and wins the battle of the freaks by KOing Dugga Lon with an assisted blitz (a measure of revenge for Saurfang)! I've tied the orcs up pretty good at midfield though and Samuro is unsupported driving down the field in turn 5. I blitz and the ball scatters into the crowd and a generous toss puts the ball way back in the Legion's half. With a dodge and a 3+ pickup I can all but put the game away... I make the dodge, but fail the 3+ pickup with reroll... double deuce!

The orcs recover but it's still looking grim as I risk the Ref Eye and put an unassisted boot into Samuro for a stun, ensuring he can't score before the game is over.

It's now do or die for the Legion and I am playing very cautious as I'm out of rerolls. The Legion still have an AG4 lineorc in scoring range but because I have no rerolls I'm afraid to put a blitz on him as it would require a GFI with a skilless linerat so I settle for a TZ on him and another linerat covering the loose ball. But the lineorc still picks up the ball, fails the dodge (gasp!), makes the reroll and makes 2 GFI to tie it up on their last turn!

My horde of fans distract the ref allowing me to foul and BH a rookie blitzer but my long-legged gutter fails to catch the ball to try the OTS and we're off to OT!

OT
---
I receive, yay! And I'm up 11-10 in bodies amazingly! But Dugga Lon is still in the KO box.

I'm down 1-0 in the reroll department. I proceed with caution.

Turn 3 disaster. The Experiment double skullz it.

Samuro stuns a gutter with a blitz and puts his tackling TZ on my ball carrier. Evil Fangoria, my only guard SV is BH by Rokhan the Troll (remember that regen?) who decides to finally do something (he failed about half his bonehead rolls in the game, no joke). This prompts me to use the Apo as I need his blitz or risk a turn-over and the game on a failed dodge away from Samuro. But that weedy little gobbo soon ends The Experiment with a deadly foul and is sent off by the ref!

I blitz Samuro off and runz fer it into the orc half. It takes the Legion 8 block dice and their final reroll to get the POW and take my gutter down. But a good scatter and a failed GFI from a lineorc trying to get to the ball and things are looking up again for the ratmen.

I secure the ball and survive another blitz from a dodging, 2 x GFI, lineorc... AG4 is everywhere! So now it's just a matter of scoring and playing Defense against the rerolless Legion for 2 turns... but I roll snakes on the dodge with my gutter!!! GAH!!!

The orcs recover and look to secure a coin-toss but thanks to the sun the pass isn't accurate and the ball falls at mid-field out of any orc TZ. My linerat swoops in and... 1! Fumbles the ball. Samuro BHs a gutter but his AG5 fails him and flubs the pickup too!

It should be noted that it is now 8 on 8 with nearly everyone's TZ on a single player. Only the AG4 dare dodge and only the ST4 BoBs dare block as rerolls are all done.

I swoop in with my long-legged gutter and snatch the ball out from Samuro's nose, 3+. Dodge out, 2+. Get the pass off (needed a 4, got a 5) despite the sun, and a big fat 2 catches the ball and the game is up. Rats when 2-1 on the last turn.

Before this game I was really struggling with being bored with LRB4 and some really bad luck, but this epic game turned it all around... I got a few messages from specs saying how much they enjoyed the game, and this has gone a long way into bringing fun and interest back into the game for me.

Thanks must go to coach maysrill for a great game. This was one of, if not the toughest most enjoyable game I've played and it definately won't be our last. Cheers m8! To all the specs and those that showed support, to Nuffle and the team that took out 3 of his players before this match, gurkhans claws! Thanks!

Now I go on to be crushed by yet more orcs, but tonight the Skavenbrew flows free!
