#8 Camembert Beaver – Dead (RIP)
OCCS Cabalvision Athletic Cup 2010 - round 2

The rats won the toss and elected to receive. They scored relatively early, and the plan was to pressure on defense to get the ball. Because the Creepers were not breaking armor much (and getting a lot of pushes instead of POWs), the Cheezie Poofs did get the ball when Sourpuss attempted a second GFI with no reroll available and failed. He hit the ground hard, stunning himself. Once I picked up the ball, there was very little chance the Creepers would score but I decided to attempt a counter-score. Because I was out of RRs, I didn't take some GFIs that I would have liked to. I only had 1 GR in scoring range, and he was also covering the ball carrier. John White the wight got a nice blitz that downed the GR and Asiago Squirrel was not able to reach the endzone.

2nd half got most of my KOs back so I was able to field a full team. The kick-off result was Injury timeout, which I was happy about at the time. I thought if I could get the ball on the ground I would be able to stop the score. The Cheezie Poofs never managed to get the ball on the ground, and although they made a good defensive effort the Creepers were able to score on their T8. I set up my T8 offense hoping for another Injury Timeout but didn't get it. I threw some blocks and completed a pass, but didn't accomplish much.

OT I was kicking, and though I got all my KOs back I think I only had 10 players at this point. The kickoff result was both teams Get the Ref!, which was lucky for me since I was 2 FF lower than the Creepers. However, being down so many players the rats never managed to make a single boot to the head. The Creepers got to the ball quickly and then they very methodically pushed down the field in a solid cage. I tried several times to get around or inside the cage, keeping my GRs back waiting for an opening, but never got the chance. As the Creepers were nearing the endzone, I made some desperation blitzes (including 1 on the ballcarrier), but came up with a skull on a -2db and -3db hit. The Creepers then unleashed hell! I had saved my apothecary, letting my unskilled thrower (Camembert Beaver) die in the 2nd half, and was glad I did. Basil Ratbone killed Mozarella Mouse with a block, but the apothecary was quickly on the job. Then a zombie hit the new GR, Colby Cheddar Chipmunk, and scored an SI niggle. Once they were done kicking rats, they handed off to Beefhead McGore and he trotted in for the winning score.

Good game, Araz. An exciting game that was very close until OT. I should have never let it get to OT, and you did an excellent job protecting the ball (scoring on 2 out of 3 kickoffs). Good luck in the rest of the Cabalvision Cup.
