“Crown Of Sand II Qualifier VII: Final

I started on offense, but soon ran into trouble when the darkies KO'ed two players and seriously injured a chaos warrior (apothed). This forced me to look for a quick score, since stalling was out of the question. I did manage to score on turn 4, but this left 5 turns for the elves to equalize. I couldn't stop the elves from scoring, but pressured them enough so that they went for an early TD at turn 6.

With two turns to go, I figured I should try hard for a two-turner, since 1-1 at halftime would leave the game in total control for the elves. Unfortunately, I had used a lot of RRs on double skulls earlier in the half and had to use one early on turn 7 as well. This left me in a precarious position, since the elves now seriously threatened another TD of their own. I did manage to pick up the ball, but the elves made 7 2+ rolls, a 3+ roll, and knocked down my ball carrier (on two dice) without reroll on their last turn, making it 2-1 at half time.

I required a miracle to have any chance in the second half, and luckily I got it: a blitz! My MA 7 dodge beastman caught the ball, but couldn't be protected due to the placement of the kick. The darkies knocked him down and picked up the ball, but lost it again in the scrum. After my beastman caught the ball on the elves' turn 2 things looked bright for the first time in the game, but this joy was shortlived: a 1 die block took down the beastman and a blodge elf blitzer started on a break-away. I had a few chances to take him down (8 dice without tackle), but couldn't stop the 3-1 TD.

The game was pretty much over at this point, although I did try to score a quick TD to have a slight chance in the game. The closest I got was the TD line, but the final GFI was too much. One last defensive TD put the final result at 4-1 for the elves.

Thanks for the fun game Meltyman and good luck in the final tournament. I felt you had the better dice this game (except for the start of the second half), but you played very well and absolutely deserved the win.

One fun note about this qualifier: I played 4 games and took 10 casualties in those games. None of the casualties was a BH; instead, I got 5 SIs, and 5 deaths (2 kills apothed to BH, one to SI). Karma?”
