#1 Yorick Deepwing – Fractured Leg (MNG)
#3 Alexander Vilestream – Smashed Collar Bone (-ST)
The World Championship group stage was always going to be a hard fought game, however Ulric Fasthammer took it to another level. Fasthammer's killing blow to take down the mighty Ulfwerner King Sverker was a statement of intent that made the Norsemen take notice.

In response the Norscianimals ended the career of Vilestream and ran in the first touch down as the Journeymen shepherded the offense along the sideline to prevent a stall. This allowed Whiterock more than enough time to run in a reply, equalising the score with the Journeymen to receive in the second half.

A committed defense and corruption from the match officials saw the Journeymen lose their numbers advantage, however in times of crisis they turn to star blizter William Hardfield. Hardfield stayed cool and despite being marked a number of times he slipped away with his team mates scrambling to prevent a blitz on their ball carrier. Even the speed of Jon Snow couldn't stop him and he ran in a touch down with only a few minutes remaining to win the game.

A game that felt close the whole way, and was a really fun way to kick off the group stages of the WC. Thanks for the game shoebdoo, if our teams meet again, the Journeymen will remember Brother Guilbert.

#4 King Sverker – Dead (RIP)
The Norsicanimals stumbled their way into their qualifier still burping the sweet suds of Bloodweiser....brewed back home in gorgeous Norsca. Off the bat, the champions of the North rushed the opening kick and began pummeling the perceived wimpy humans of the empire. However, by turn 2, my faithful bearded drunkards were down 2 men on 2 blocks, one of whom (King Sverker) would never rise again (after being so solidly killed, even the apo laughed and drank a beer to his memory.) It was at that point that the game took a more serious tone and the Norsemen stopped laughing and started hitting. The Humans shadowed the Norse opening drive and forced a score without a stall putting the Norsemen on the defensive.

The humans responded and punched through the Norse center on their return drive. The Norse started marking players and swarmed the ball carrier without a cage but some fleet dodging by the human blitzers left the Norse to spread out to bring their strength to bear and at the half....it was 1-1.

Second half started good for the humans, with a GTR kick result, the short staffed Norsemen were in danger of 3 blocks, a blitz, and a gang foul. Shockingly, the humans were not only unable to inflict any damage, but the ref took the money and still tossed the fouler and like that...the Norsemen had a chance. The resulting Norse foul took another Human off the field and the field was level. The humans maneuvered for a hole and finally found one when the Norsemen got more absorbed hammering humans than playing ball. Some fast play from the humans turned the Norse flank and some last ditch defensive moves were not enough to stop William Hardfield who single handedly blitzed through the Norse lines and took the rock to the house.

Really fun match, and grats on the win for Dunenzed. I look forward to a rematch one day and although Brother Guilbert may have a target on his back, maybe he can finish what he started with Mr Hardfield :)
