FUMBBL Minors 1600TW I-2, round 1

Right in the morning after the tournament had kicked off, Quintessential Dwarves and I Don't Like Your Face met for a traditional dwarf vs. orc positioning grind. The weather was nice, the spectators plenty and even half a dozen coaches showed up to follow the game. Both young teams came with a very solid winning record (Quintessential Dwarves: 9/0/1, I Don't Like Your Face: 11/2/0), albeit the orcs are coached by the (by that time) #1 FUMBBL coach.

First Half

The orcs decided to receive first. Thorek Thrungsson kicked deep and the orcish offense only unfolded slowly.
A lot of pushes, a lot of both downs prevented by blocking skills on both sides. Quintessential Dwarves held the line and their opponents' clock was ticking. When the side switch came, it was not a big surprise, even though the dwarves had to hurry a bit to follow up. No one had expected how badly Boomer Eziasson would screw up though, leaving a big hole (without even needing a bomb) in the dwarves defense.
As neither last turn efforts to prevent the touchdown nor an attempt to one-turn score worked out, I Don't Like Your Face went into the second half with a 1-0 lead.

Second Half

Without even a single KO on either side, only Boomer was missing the start of the second half (probably for the better anyway).
The dwarves advanced cautiously on the first turn, but rushed forward only one turn later, as Brand Borginsson sensed a chance to take out Handy, the orcish thrower. He did not succeed and the team lost a reroll as well as position. The orcs took advantage of their higher strength and stuns against both troll slayers and popped the ball just the next turn. Hurgar Harginsson was able to recover it briefly, but out-positioned, his teammates were not able to protect him from super blitzer Bonce. The strong, agile orc once more blitzed the ball carrier down and this time stole the ball as well, after an unlucky early turnover by the Quintessential Dwarves.
I Don't Like Your Face walked in the second touchdown without a single dwarf being able to stop them.

Quintessential Dwarves lose 0-2 and take home some serious lessons on (bad) positioning.

Thanks, Purplegoo, for playing. You are a polite, smart and enjoyable opponent. Although I fear another loss, I'd happily play against you again any time. Good luck in the next round and the rest of the tournament! You and your time should have a good shot at the title here. :-)

You are much, much too kind! I'd love to do it again sometime. Apologies I had to be rude and run of at the end so quickly.

Until next time!
