#4 Eddie Can'tscore – Fractured Leg (MNG)
#7 Omar Little – Dead (RIP)
#8 Baby Elephant – Dead (RIP)
#12 What's Up Ryan – Dead (RIP)
The team lived up to their name, relying on witch elves and assassins to go up early and staying there in a wildly entertaining first-round matchup. The elves drew first (and second) blood, scoring two TDs early amid rainy conditions and injuring a pair of ST4 players. (The game's four casualties? You guessed it... one each by each of the witches and assassins.)

Things started going wrong when a riot led to some dodgy timekeeping. Suspiciously, the orcs had JUST ENOUGH time to score before halftime. The refereeing proved faulty as well, resulting in the death of What's Up Ryan... the orcs' fouler was eventually ejected, but not before much havoc.

With only six players on the pitch to start the second half, things were looking bad for the elves -- and when early returns halved that number, they seemed downright grim. But the three men on the pitch accomplished a miracle: Mick Dagger (a) darted into a cage to injure the opposing carrier. The ball bounced loose of the cage, allowing Veronica (b) to pounce on it, make a lateral run, and pass the ball to Emily (c), who ran free to make it 3-1. The rest of the game was fairly academic, with the Wives blitzing into the backfield, getting stopped, and conceding a touchdown.

The win puts the team in a bit of a problematic situation... down to 9 players, one of whom misses the next game, how will they hold up against another physical team in round 2? With Omar dead and Eddie injured, we thank Nuffle for small favors: Emily, whose two TDs and one casualty made her the real MVP of game 1, has received an agility boost. Still, the team's odds of surviving the pressures of an entire tournament seem increasingly low... but we made it to the second round of a non-stunty tournament for the first time in years. Rejoice!

Although still in training, the gladiators of Ludus of Lentulus Batiatus were forced to appear in the games known as Wheel of Chaos V Nurgle qualifiers. Lucretia whispered in his husbands ear, that the coin gathered will allow for a deep bench against the fierce beaters attending from respectful schools around the empire. And if pitted against agile elves... how can we tackle the dodgers, doctore has but begun the training against such threats, replied Batiatus in desperation. And the gods heard Batiatus and sent wives with just knives to meet the gladiators on a much awaited rainy day in Capua.

The game begun as expected, elves scored the first goal with ease on t3. Although Bomber Dribblesnot and Oenamaus managed to take down the ball carrier, each time the elves secured the ball. Our first attack showed some success, Lucretia removed the opposition with her dirty tactics and by t5 we had 11 vs 6 advantage. A perfect turn from the elves: Runner dodges and gfis away, Witch elf dodges and downs the ball carrier, ag5 dodges and gfis to the ball and passes it away. Our game plan goes south, as the wizard and foul on the runner do not break armour, and the elf dodges, picks up the ball and passes to the end zone. It was refreshing to see successful elf play in action, and not always burning rerolls during the first gfi. The gods gave orcs some slack, and allowed us to score in the end of the first half.

The second half continued orc carnage and just when it looked like game over, the assassin known as Mick Dagger puts the entire orc team to shame. Game over? Yes.

A very entertaining game where the ball and players moved all around. The ball was dropped and lifted several times by both parties. But in the end, the positioning of the orcs was not adequate and allowed the more skilled elves to take this round.

The price of victory was paid in full by blood and soul. The names of the deceased will be honored in the halls of the Ludus of Lentulus Batiatus of Capua. As will the glorious deeds of Veronica, Emily and Mick Dagger be told to future gladiators of generations to come. May the gods of Rome shine their light on Wives With Knives in their journey through the Wheel of Chaos!
