“FUMBBL Smack Scheduled - Brawl VIII: first round.

Tense and bloody game with 4 RIP's (the tree was saved by the apoth)!

Beard And The Bear decided to receive the ball in the first half, but were unlucky with a Blitz! as kick-off result. The Silver Guardians managed to get the ball with a screen to protect the ballcarrier from a blitz. We managed to stall one turn before scoring, but got two RIP's as a reward.

When the Dwarfs received after the first touch-down, the Elves were able to squeeze two players through and positioned them between the cage with the ball and the rest of the team. This allowed us to put a 1d on the ball with a leaping wardancer. Unfortunately Scipio, a 96 spp wardancer killed himself in the process (skull, reroll skull) and the apoth was already gone by then to save the tree.

Despite this setback I managed to get another blitz on the ball the next turn, this time with Pompey, the team's second wardancer. Due to wrestle we managed to get the ball free and actually even picked it up with a lineman and ran away. When the lightning bolt missed next turn, I even started to believe in scoring the 2-0. But then Zara showed up and blitzed my ballcarrier, knocking him out of the game and picking up the ball. Two 1's on the next dodges screwed up a third blitz on the ball (the first was rerolled with a team reroll, the second obviously not).

Still it wasn't over because next turn Zara snaked a gfi for a handover and went down, dropping the ball. With few players left, the Silver Guardians still managed to pick it up and planned to throw it to a catcher within touchdown reach. I decided to make another gfi/dodge however in order to get out of a tackle zone before throwing the ball. Unfortunately I failed the gfi and lost the ball again. This allowed the dwarfs to pick it up with a runner, hand it off to a MA6 blitzer, who ran in the equalizer with a succesfull gfi for a 1-1 stand at halftime. Perfect defense then ruined all hope for a one-turner.

I'd been hoping to stop the equalizer in the first half, but everything was still possible, especially since the elves were receiving in the second half. It suddenly started raining, but that didn't seem to have any effect on the game. Nothing special to report on the next few turns. I managed to score in turn 4, leaving 5 turns to the dwarfs to egalize once more.

The dwarfs picked up the ball in the rain, but left some space once more between their cage and the rest of the team. This allowed me once more to kick the ball loose. Nevertheless no-one dared to pick up the ball out of fear it might scatter in the hands of an opponent. Since I was happy with the score as it was, I limited myself to "proctecting the ball" by putting lots of players around it. Eventually someone was pushed on the ball though and it fell right in the hands of a dwarf blocker, who managed to get hold of it despite the rain!

He handed it off to the runner, who ran towards the line. By then the end of the game was near, and only a blitzer was in range to score the next turn. Fortunately I had him marked the turn before and managed to blitz him with a wrestler, who took him down with wrestle, making the equalizer impossible.

Very interesting game, but a bit too bloody to my liking! Man of the match was definitely the treeman, who - despite being killed at one point - kept numerous dwarfs occupied during almost the entire game.

Let's see what the next round brings us. Lost 390k TV though...
