#16 Skullsplinter – Dead (RIP)
Jakob Küchenmeister's journal, #7 entry:

Today we met goblins for the first time. It is said that they taste like mushrooms, so my masters were looking forward to the game. Pleasant weather, roaring crowd made the game a pleasure to play. Otherwise not a lot of good things happened.
First half our team was kicking off and the goblins started their offense. Their chainsaw sent on of our helpers into unconciousness, but left it exposed. Their bomber took aim and the explosion knocked down two of our players. Master Blackfist wanted to prove himself worty and charged the chainsaw, only to be dragged off the field with a pinched nerve (that was quickly taken care of by the apothecary). Not the best start for his carreer.
The goblins were trying to advance on our left, but decided it is not the best path, so their ballcarrier hung back with the ball, even standing idle in their own endzone. Skullsplinter was killed by the second bomb that hit him, ending his very short and very painful tenure in Blood Bowl. I could only collect his remains from the crater that was left by the bombb a large ladle, as his remains were liquid mostly.
The goblin tactic of waiting with the ball in the endzone didn't pay off as two snotlings made it there, pushing the ballbearer into the rather friendly crowd. So friendly indeed that they managed to throw the ball into to middle of our half, thanks to a spectacular crowd-to-crowd play.
My masters could take down the ballcarrier and in the resulting brawl one of our ogres caught the ball ran to the midfield and attempted a pass to the snotling that was still loitering there. The pass landed near the snotling, just far away enough so he couldn't score before half time with only running. A helpful ogre threw him near the ball, but he couldn't land, so it was 0-0 half time.
Second half the goblins played very aggressive defense and took the ball from us, scoring late into the second half after our attempt to reach the ballcarrier failed, thanks to an ogre tripping on a ribcage.
With only a short time left in the half it was down again to Skinscrather to run for it. The ball landed out of bounds, so it was a bit easier for us. Skinscratcher ran his favourite route along the right sideline while some of his fellow helpers tried to screen him from harm. We knew it will be still a matter of luck if he can score. And lucky we got! For the first time in the game one of their players stumbled and fell while trying to break free from the hold of one of ours. Skinscratcher gave his all and sprinted into the endzone for the draw. 1-1!
The goblins still had time, but we knew what they wanted to attempt and a refectly timed shift in our defense denied them the opportunity to throw a goblin.
Once again we could not acquire a new recipe, but the used Skullsplinter's rather runny remains for a spread.
