“This was my first game in almost four months so I wasn't really expecting to put up much of a fight here. Also, I'm clearly in the process of a rebuild as I have two brand new wardancers and not a single tackler on the entire team. Also, Gary_Gygax has two absolutely solid blitzers. And as if that's not enough, all four (yes, all four) of his catchers are MA9.
So I was out-bashed, out-moved, and generally fairly conclusively out-played. In my defence, I was also out-lucked, but honestly, that wasn't what made the difference.
But needless to say, the game was fun and thankfully painless. Also, I got to try out one of the weird new star players who seem to have appeared since I last played. And to be honest, he was fairly useful here, not really blocking much, but really getting in the way and tying up a lot of elves with his tentacles.
As for the game itself - the first half was fast and furious, with both teams scoring quickly. I then missed the chance for a second score thanks to a blitz on the kick-off - which allowed Gary_Gygax to pull ahead, and then even though I pulled one back, so did he to finish the half.
The second half was more subdued. The Union scored another easy TD to get themselves a comfortable two-score lead and then after my catcher muffed a catch and handed the ball to one of those pesky elven catchers, it was all over. Gary_Gygax chose to play it safe and not push for an unnecessary 5th score and I was in no position to try any last-minute heroics.
Boy, it's nice to be back though. Honestly, I'm not really sure why I haven't played for so long, as I've been sat in front of the computer whenever I wasn't sat in front of the TV for most of my free time recently - and I've had a LOT of free time recently. In the end it was all the talk of the new rules update that did it. I figure I need to be back up to speed with the basics before I have to learn all the new rules - which I'm assuming is going to take me some time (old dog, new tricks).
In the meantime, let's see if I can't push my legends a little bit further up the Top Lists before it all gets too confusing for such a bear of little brain.”
