Postgame Press conference – Drakwold Thicketkeepers vs Rotfall Ironworks Rocketeers

Welcome, again, to the press conference. Thanks for sticking round with us in this damp, grim place. Overall, we're happy with that result. They had chances to win, as did we, but we have to be happy with a draw against tough opposition.

As we said in the pre-tournament interview with Mr Brian, the Rocketeers looked good coming into the tournament, and they showed up today. We didn't have the aggression we needed to score a decisive victory, and they made some great blocks. I do have some concerns, as ever, about the quality of the searches that are carried out pre game. I understand that some things will slip by, but a doomflayer, chainsaw, bombs... they are not so easily hidden. I do wonder if the quality of the match officials might not be better in a more civilized locale.

We hoped to score quickly and see some of those weapons removed before they had any impact, and despite the rain it was relatively effortless to do so. Unfortunately that did leave them plenty of time to put together a punishing rolling maul of a drive in response, and I have to wonder if the fourth official was paying proper attention to the clock.

Given the amount of time they had, it seemed unlikely that we'd be able to hold them off, so we tried to blitz and pressure the ball, unfortunately they were able to stuff our blitzers with their very solid mecha vermin. We did get a couple of hits on the ball, but we underestimated the ability of their quarterback to fend of our frenzied tacklers. Overall, we were outplayed by that drive, taking too much punishment and leaving us in a tricky position at the half with only seven players in a fit state to take the field.

They didn't present any options to start with, and we tried to play a stand off, containing defense in the hope that an opportunity to get to the ball would present itself. Things were looking dire, with their tremendous, slow drive forward, until they got carried away with their disgusting poison globes. Noxxus Blight missed a throw, and it opened up just the sort of chance that Gabe [Carsys] loves to take, knocking the ball free. Allie did a great job scooping up the ball, and then Metsavana made a fantastic break away. Unfortunately, they tracked back well, and we just didn't do enough to steal the win.

We're missing a few players for next weeks match, including todays try-scorer, Nariphon, who took a nasty knock to the claw. Hopefully we'll be able to do well in their absence whoever our opponent is. I'd also just like to say farewell to Corylaceae who has chose to step back down to our 2nd team to recover from a broken ankle, after just four games with us.

As a region we haven't got off to the start we would have hoped for here in skavenblight, but it's a long season and it is all still to play for, I'm still confident that we can come out on top.
