Year 1, Summer - BWM3 vs FOE3 round 1:

After last spring’s clueless season, the Archivist’s captain, Lyndon the Seafarer, had picked a new destiny for his summer research. Guiding his private vessel the Juniper Monocle into the local harbor, he urged his team to prepare to disembark. The young sea elves eagerly executed their coach’s orders and after leaving the ship headed straight to the Jagged Harlequin, one of the more luxurious inns in town, where Lyndon had hired a whole wing for the summer season. There would be plenty of time to investigate Amanar’s mysterious disappearance, but first there was a game of bloodbowl to play. Indeed, in the first match of the season the Archivists would face A Comedic Travesty, a bunch of clowns playing bloodbowl.

Lyndon had ordered his seamen to carry his trusted wooden sea chair from the Monocle to the stadium from where he would guide his team during the game. Seated upon his princely throne, Lyndon observed his team receiving the kick in the first half. The Archivists slowly advanced, not knowing what to expect from the opposing circus act. In turn 2 Gildor badly hurted an opposing Nurgling. Real danger would come from Bronkus, King of Fools, using his hypnotic gaze. And from Slaugorgal Toadhand, cunningly shoving bombs in the direction of the sea elves. Not to mention Mumpyngitus Blithepulp, the lightning-fast tainted jester. By turn 4 the Travesty started seeping through the Archivist’s screen, urging Ethandril to push through and run in the opening touchdown: 1-0 for the sea elves!

The score had been opened a bit too soon to Lyndon’s liking, but by now he was sufficiently knowledgeable in the basics of bloodbowl to understand that scoring a touchdown is nothing to be regretted! The second drive was opened by the Travesty. Another bomb landed in the sea elves’ ranks, but their heavy armor prevented the worst damage. The ball was picked up and secured in the backfield by the mad jester. Gildor proved he was on fire by sending off Vespasiano with a smashed knee. Meanwhile the circus tried to push through using the left flank of the pitch. The sturdy sea elves blocked off the road though. That was the signal for Mumpyngitus to leap over the astonished elves and make a run for it. Lyndon raised an eyebrow when he witnessed the bold move, but remained otherwise calm. “Nice trick that jester pulled out of his sleeve”, he murmured to no-one in particular. But then disaster struck as he failed a dodge and crashed headfirst into the turf. Feldor smelled an opportunity and ran towards the endzone, while Ethandril picked up the ball. Next turn he snaked a GFI though, ruining the Archivist’s opportunity to double the score before halftime.

The second half started with an intervention of Nuffle, who decided to send a pouring rain over the pitch. Since the bomber had been sent off by now, the Travesty only had 8 players left versus 10 elves. Lyndon advised his Archivists to manmark, putting faith in the resilience of their heavy armor, in order to slow down the opposition’s advance and fish for an opening. The cage was soon surrounded, but the Travesty found that opening, sending Mumpyngitus on a solitary quest for the equalizer. Feldor and Aerys sandwiched the jester though and popped the ball free, knocking out the tainted jester in the process. A scramble for the pall ensued on the muddy pitch until Thrombik Bileheart managed to get his filthy hands around it. Meanwhile the elves’ numbers had been reduced to only six players. Things didn’t look too well. The Archivists had to resort to -2d blocks, which wasn’t quite working. But then Thrombik snaked a GFI after breaking free. Eldain recovered the ball, but lost it again one turn later. Nuffle was still with the Archivists though, when he decided to let Thrombik fail another GFI. Eldain recovered the ball once more and this time wouldn’t lose it again.

And so the first game of the summer season ended in a win for the Archivists! A satisfied Lyndon descended from his throne, collected the corpse of Bollite Dungfoot, and disappeared in the night for some heavy drinking to celebrate the first win of the season!
