SWL Season XII - Commissioner Twahn Memorial Regional League - Round 4

Well, I must say I feel slightly ripped off here ;-)

It was a reasonably close match. Pouring rain in the first half gave the undead a bit of a disadvantage, but they didn't seem to have too much trouble handling the ball (considering). A solid defence held them at bay for a few turns, and when the ghould broke through, they were met by a solid blitz, knocking the ball carrier to the ground.

The poor weather conditions proved to be slightly too much for the orcs, and although they came close, a dropped hand-off left them the two orcs involved standing quite ashamedly in the middle of the opposing half, with not a single opposing player near them, or in the way of a touchdown.

The second half saw the weather return to normal - and some hard work by the groundskeepers removed all traces of mud from the pitch. The orcs took advantage of a short kick to build a solid cage, which they moves steadily up the pitch. The ball was never in any real danger, and a bit of stalling saw the boot come out in retailiation. Well, two can play at that game, and Elbow Kikka put the boot in with a solid foul taking Overwhelming Apathy well and truly out of the game (we don't think he'll be welcome in the team ever again). Stan's remarkable ability to persuade the ref not to send off his players (3 successful argue the call rolls) left him with only one player banned for the remainder of the match. The orcs scored in turn 7, leaving just two turns for an equaliser.

Ancient Sorrow was the only player actually fast enough to reach the end-zone, and it would require a miracle for him to make it all the way there - especially with only zombies available to get the ball to him. And a miracle is what happened! With only pushes on the blitz, the orcs tried to box him in. All to no avail. They should have made it tougher, but some poor moves left a slim chance for the TD to still succeed. The play went like this...
Having picked up the ball with a zombie in the previous turn ... hand off (4+) to Soul Bleeding (zombie). Quick pass (4+) to Ancient Sorrow (wight), catch the ball in 2 TZs (5+). Dodge out (3+), 1d blitz (3+, needed a push, got a POW!). Dodge out again (3+), then run for the end-zone (2+,2+)... and all of this with just the one re-roll! Obviously a play like this makes the whole twahnlow voting a whole lot easier, but it still leaves you feeling just a little ripped off.

Next time gadget, I'll get you next time!

Edit: For interest's sake, I chucked the numbers into my new probability calculating spreadsheet, and found that with a RR, this play had a 12% chance of succeeding (with the RR) -- not anywhere near as improbable as I thought it would have been!

That's way better odds than winning the lottery! :-)

------------------- Twahnlow Votes -------------------
3 pts - #4 Ancient Sorrow
Pulling of a very spectacular set of moves! (see above)

2pts - #15 Soul Bleeding
For making the completion required to get the TD. How he managed to steal the MVP from Ancient Sorrow, we shall never know.

1pt - #1 Bound and Pleading
Well, I had to pick one of the mummies, they both put in a solid effort this game. Even though they didn't do a whole lot of damage, they were always in the way. This one managed to actually deal out some damage too.

Well what a game

I hit and i hit and i hit, 25 blocks between the Mummies this game, but the few zons who went down rarely stayed down.

Frustration levels went through the roof, the coaches hair turned grey in one half, and the fouling war went no better.

And then the play

My god that play, I've never seen anything like it, I think i may have forgotten to breath, I felt so light headed after

I never expected it to work, hell i never expected the zombie to pick up the ball in turn 7, but my lord did the boys rise to the occasion.... oh hey they rose!

My sympathies to Laviak for the draw, but I hope it frustrated him as much as 14 turns of beating Amazons around the park frustrated me :P

Twahnlow votes where hard, the girls turned into a blur of spiteful figures who I knew should die but just wouldn't, however.....

3 Votes to Throat Rippa, who led the faceless horde in aging me 3 years by pounding the Tales poor dead flesh turn in, turn out.

2 Votes to Elbow Kikka, for ensuring more frustration in the fowling war that ensued when i attempted to convince Laviak of the follies of stalling.

1 Vote to Sneaky Ork for holding the ball and making rude gestures at my hapless team as we attempted to force the score.
