Benefitting from being one of the earliest Blood Bowl expansion races, the MiSwampi Crocfins found early success on the pitch. With legendary players like Larry Skinka and Mercury Saurus leading a two-headed reptilian running attack, the team celebrated what some consider the only undefeated season in Blood Bowl history. Mercury Saurus, in fact—though he is now 184-years-old and can barely open his beady, slitted eyes—still celebrates each season when an undefeated team loses by cracking open a bottle of swamp water not to drink but rather to use the broken shards of the bottle to attack any innocent bystanders.

Led by coaching great Donk Shella, a giant swamp turtle whose mind for the game and ability to easily move from one franchise to the next (because he carried his house on his back) was unrivaled, the Crocfins established themselves as a model franchise for two decades. After Skinka and Saurus retired, Shella was able to build one of the most dominant passing attacks the Blood Bowl pitch had ever seen, thanks mostly to one of the league’s first expert chameleon skink throwers, Dank Maringworm. Able to flick the ball with a long, lightning-quick prehensile tongue, Maringworm lit up the record books and regularly led the Crocfins deep into the playoffs, flicking slobber-coated bombs to fleet-footed and sure-handed skink receivers Marsh Damper and Marsh Claybed, affectionately known to Crocfin fans as the Marsh Brothers.

Unfortunately, Maringworm underperformed in his only championship appearance when his tongue dried up and the Crocfins passing game was smothered by the BeastMancisco Horny Miners. Since Maringworm’s retirement, the Crocfins have been mired in mediocrity, churning through reptiles in search of their next great thrower or coach. Bright spots have been few and far between. Coached for a few years by the big-bellied half-mountain giant Tiny Spearinyou, the Crocfins did manage to return to the playoffs, and start a new league-wide sensation with their Wild Croc offense. The unconventional formation featured a Saurus as a thrower and led to many victories mainly because it befuddled teams, who couldn’t understand why a giant reptile with razor sharp claws would try to pick up the ball, let alone throw it.

Once the novelty wore off and teams were able to defend the Wild Croc offense by putting an extra blitzer in the box, the Crocfins returned to mediocrity and obscurity, which is where they are now. But hope springs eternal—just as stench springs eternal from the Miswampi Bog itself. Having recently hired the brilliant young mage Mickon McDandy as their coach, the Crocfins hope the scrawny but silver-tongued McDandy’s Royal Academy education pays off in as many victories as clever sound-bytes.

Hope also springs from a new chameleon skink thrower, Toady Tungafarthrower. Some fans think this slight but accurate thrower can finally replace Maringworm, but others point out that his arm is weaker than Maringworm’s tongue and he regularly underthrows his speedy skink receiver Fahreek “the Swamp Cheetah” Frill, who claims to be the fastest reptile on the planet. More controversially, Tungafarthrower missed several games due to head injuries, though the team claims at least one was a back injury. When told that a piece of his skull was actually found on the field, Crocfin officials replied, “Yeah, that’s what he hurt his back on.”

Will the Crocfins be able to return to glory? Can Tungafartrhower’s scrawny arm out-throw Maringworm’s tongue? Could Frill’s mouth out-run his feet in a 40-yard dash? Will a Tungafarthrower decapitation eventually force the Crocfins to return to playing a saurus as their thrower? There’s only one way to find out. Tune in for the Crocfins next Blood Bowl match—and fins up!
