<p align="justify"> <b>STOP PRESS</b>: "OUCH" so said Head Coach Fezdan after watching yet another of the Raiders leave the field in a pine box. This time it was their only defensively skilled lineman (and 3 time mvp) Darian Pinebark. After an early savaging by the brutal northern warriors, the team rarely had more than 6 players on the pitch - at one time lining up with only 5. Barring a miracle, the result was never in doubt. Asked about his aims for the rest of the tournament Head Coach Fezdan had this to say "Plans? Targets? You've got to be joking, if we can make it to the end and get 11 players to start a match - I'll be happy! Full marks to the Northmen though, they played a great game!"<br><br>Taking to the field with only 10 players in their second round of the SWL Fledgling Frenzy II, the Raiders' season has gone from bad to worse with the tragic death of their dauntless catcher <b> Oakshot Longlimb. </b> Oakshot was the victim of 2 vicious blocks and team chop-artist <b> Splint Ganglion</b> was able to save him from the 1st injury. When Oakshot's mangled corpse was transferred to the dressing rooms after the second hit, Splint had disappeared. He was later found in the stadium bar, wildly drunk - too late for Oakshot.. All of this during their 4 - 0 defeat at the hands of a human <b><i>basketball team</i></b>! The shame, the ignomy! Maybe next week their luck will turn! Hahahaha!.<br><br>In their 1st match of the SWL Fledgling Frenzy II the Greenleaf Raiders continued their unbroken string of defeats going down 2-1 to a bunch of rotting mutants. Also, <b>Elgos Longbow</b> was forced to eat his earlier words about <b><i>hidden strength</i></b> when Raiders Treeman <b> Eucalyptus Stringybark</b> was brutally slain by a sneaky foul from a land-based giant squid. <b>Head Coach Fezdan</b> had this to say:<br>"We'll all miss Eucky, he was a great practical joker and one of the true gentleman of the game. Unfortunately, due to our recent run of poor form we can't afford a proper funeral for him. We will therefore be holding a combination cremation/bonfire in his honour tonight. All are welcome."<br><br>"People often think of us as weak, easily removed from the game but they don't understand - the Forest has hidden strengths. It can crack apart mountains rock by rock and slow the wind itself. We bring this to the game and nothing will stop us!"<br><b>Elgos Longbow - captain of the Greenleaf Raiders,</b>speaking at the pre-tournament press conference for Fledgling Frenzy II.<br><br>Asked about this <b><i>hidden strength</i></b> by a room full of giggling reporters, <b> Head Coach Fezdan</b> had this to say <br>"So far the Raiders have been winless but astonishingly... er.... I mean as you can see we have yet suffer any form of injury so maybe Elgos knows something we..ahm that YOU don't." All the while <b>Head Coach Fezdan</b> was observed to repeatedly touch the wooden back of <b> Eucalyptus Stringybark</b> the Raiders Treeman blocker.</p> |
