Balrog was born to a privileged Catalonian family in Spain. For reasons undisclosed, their status dwindled, causing Balrog's mother to remarry for financial security. As he matured, Balrog studied bullfighting, a cultural tradition. Afterward, he went to Japan and learned ninjutsu, a style he believed meshed well with his natural grace and agility. Combining bullfighting with ninjutsu, Balrog went into an underground cage fighting circuit, and quickly became one of the best. His stepfather murdered his mother because he felt she did not respect him, and Balrog killed him in return. The incident warped his mind, and he developed a dual personality: honorable nobleman by day, sadistic murderer by night.
Due to Balrog's superb fighting ability and remorseless nature, the criminal leader known as Vega instated Balrog as one of his three personal grand master bodyguards in the Shadoloo organization. Balrog oversaw assassination operations for Shadoloo as well, and was associated with Cammy and the Shadoloo assassins known as The Dolls. Despite his savage and brutal fighting ability, Balrog failed to protect Bison's secret Psycho Drive project.
It is unknown what Balrog has been doing since the fall of Shadoloo, although it's assumed he still continues his murderous rampages.

Sagat won the title of Emperor/God of Muay Thai from Nuah Kahn as a teenager, and became a national hero in Thailand. He defended his title from a fighter named Go Hibiki, in a match that cost Sagat the use of his right eye, and cost Go his life. Go's son, Dan, swore revenge on Sagat.
Sagat trained Adon, and held the first World Warrior tournament to prove that he was not only the strongest Muay Thai kickboxer, but the strongest fighter in the world. Only one fighter managed to reach Sagat: a young martial artist named Ryu. Initially, Sagat was able to defeat all of Ryu's attacks, and was sure that he was the winner of the match. However, Ryu became desperate to win the fight and was consumed by a powerful "killing intent" and executed the Metsu Shoryuken, grievously wounding Sagat and leaving a massive scar across his chest. (This is a retcon from the earlier version, which had Ryu scarring Sagat with a single Shoryuken.) Adon mocked his teacher for losing to Ryu and challenged him for the title of God of Muay Thai. His rage blinded him, and Sagat lost to Adon, but not before beating the younger man so hard that he would be in traction for four months.
Consumed with rage and hatred, Sagat eagerly joined the criminal organization known as Shadoloo. Vega had offered him Shadoloo resources to find Ryu and provide Sagat with a rematch. Sagat's nearly indomitable power provided him with the position of Vega's personal bodyguard, one of the feared Shi-Ten-Ou (四天王) or Four Heavenly Kings of Shadoloo.
During his tenure in Shadoloo, Sagat encountered Dan, now an adult seeking revenge for his father's death in the fight with Sagat. Sagat realized how anger can make people do things they regret, so he purposely lost the fight (Although Dan doesn't believe that he did), which allowed Dan to defeat him and satisfy his anger.
Sagat realized that his scar was a result of the killing intent which possessed Ryu called the Satsui no Hadou. Finally understanding that true rivals should not be blinded by rage and hatred, nor be seduced by it, and realizing Vega's real intentions, Sagat left Shadaloo.
However, when Sagat tendered his resignation, Vega presented him with a brainwashed Ryu, and told Sagat he could have the rematch he always wanted. Despite Sagat's disappointment with fighting a corrupted opponent, Sagat still fought Ryu. To break Vega's mind control, he implored to Ryu that a true warrior would not give in to such treachery. Ryu awakened from Vega's control and, rejected the Satsui no Hadou, and drove Vega off. Sagat finally realized that rivalries must have their limits.
While Sagat's goal in the second World Warrior tournament was a clean rematch with Ryu, his hopes were eclipsed when Gouki beat Vega with the Shun Goku Satsu, the only official outcome in Street Fighter II. Sagat continues to train his body and mind in Thailand, hoping to become the world's strongest fighter before he becomes too old to do so.

Little is known about Vega's youth and his early years, even as to when he was born (most game manuals list his birth year as unknown), but he appears to be in his late 30's to mid 40's although he could be much older. His first appearance, chronologically speaking, was in Street Fighter Alpha, as the head of an elusive criminal and military organization known as Shadaloo. Along with his aspirations for world conquest, Vega had been working on perfecting a lethal and deadly energy that would exponentially increase his fighting ability, an inherently evil energy he refers to as "psycho power". During the events of Street Fighter Alpha, Shadaloo came to the attention of Interpol, and the latter organization sent Chun-Li (an operative with a personal vendetta against the crime lord, who had killed her father) to thwart Vega's plans. Chun-Li and Vega eventually confronted each other and battled, and although Chun-Li defeated him, Vega escaped on his helicopter at the end of their battle, promising to kill Chun-Li in the same manner that he killed her father. During the events of Alpha or Alpha 2, Vega also came into conflict with Rose, a mysterious woman who wielded soul power, the opposite of Vega's psycho power. This fact and the fact that her quest was to stop any and all of Vega's evil plans indicate the intricate connection between the two, and would later be revealed in Street Fighter Alpha 3.
Most likely during the events of Street Fighter Alpha 2, the psycho power began exceeding the limits of his body. Having predicted this event, Vega had his scientists engineer a body that he could transfer his essence to, but that body, Cammy, escaped from Shadaloo's conditioning. Vega then turned his sights to Ryu, one of the most powerful fighters in the world, and the personal nemesis of Vega's former underling, Sagat. Vega captured Ryu and subjected him to intense psychological conditioning; when Sagat objected, Vega turned Ryu on him, telling him he could finally have his rematch. While Sagat battled Ryu, Ryu's friends Ken and Sakura fought Vega. Outmatched, Vega retreated to the Psycho Drive, which restored his power. In Street Fighter Alpha 3, USAF officers Charlie and Guile on a mission to stop the dictator from using his new creation, a satellite (featured in Street Fighter Alpha 3), which can enhance his psycho drive abilities. Guile and Charlie are joined by Chun-Li, and the three of them battle Vega. In order to take down Shadaloo's leader, Charlie keeps fighting him while the base is set to explode, and eventually sacrifices his own life. Vega's soul, however, ended up surviving the explosion and took control of Rose. It is revealed that, while trying to master psycho power, Vega had to expel all the humanity and good in his soul to accommodate and supplant the intense energy the power gives him, and that Rose is actually the formation of all of Vega's good energy. He stayed inside of Rose's body until his Shadaloo scientists could forge a new body for him, the body seen in Street Fighter II. This body, however, was much weaker, since, having inhabited his "good side's" soul for a period of time, he retained both his good and evil energies as he transferred to his new body, thus making his psycho power considerably less effective.
Vega held the second Street Fighter tournament to get revenge against the people who had destroyed the Psycho Drive. His new body was much weaker than the previous, but he was still very powerful. In the end, he was destroyed by Akuma, who killed him with the Shun Goku Satsu and sent his soul to hell to be destroyed. Vega was not heard of in Street Fighter III, and according to Chun-Li's ending in that game, Shadoloo had been destroyed between Street Fighter II and Street Fighter III.

M. Bison was once a great boxing champion and prize fighter. He was banned from boxing for permanently injuring his opponents (as well as his illegal maneuvers, particularly his headbutt), so he joined the Shadoloo criminal organization, and worked his way up from the bottom, eventually becoming Vega's enforcer. While running errands for Vega, he killed Dhalsim's elephant with a single Gigaton Punch. In one mission, M. Bison was sent to terminate Birdie. Although he did not know why, M. Bison went anyway. Birdie told him about the Psycho Drive, and M. Bison agreed to help him find it, thinking he could make money from it. When the Psycho Drive exploded, M. Bison realized that he had not been paid recently. When Vega was killed at the hands of Gouki, ownership of Shadoloo was transferred to the former prize fighter. Unfortunately, he ended up running the entire organization into the ground in record time. After the fall of Shadoloo, M. Bison became nothing more than a bum on the streets.

Chun-Li was an Interpol investigator who had been searching for clues to the recent death of her father. Getting into a friendly spar with an old teacher of hers and friend of her father, Gen, he gives her a lead into who may have killed her father—the mysterious crime syndicate Shadoloo. Finding its leader, Vega, she demands he tell her what happened to her father. To her surprise, Vega attacks and basically makes quick work of her, then flies away, laughing at her and telling her if she attacks him again he will kill her just like he did to her father. With tears in her eyes, Chun-Li swore revenge.

Chun-Li teamed up with an United States Air Force member, Charlie, to try to track and take down Shadoloo. She then ran into someone she would not have expected at all. It was Charlie's good friend and fellow lieutenant, Guile. Telling him he should not get in over his head and to leave the two be, she learns he has orders to bring Charlie back. Attempting to use force to stop him, she instead finds herself defeated; nonetheless, she insists that she and her partner be left alone, to which Guile replies that he will never abandon friends in need. Eventually, learning that Vega tricked the Air Force into cancelling the planned bombing of the main Shadoloo base, she rushed over to the two soldiers to tell them they were tricked and would have to destroy the base on their own. Chun-Li proceeded to plant bombs about the base as Charlie and Guile headed inside to destroy the Psycho Drive, but Guile then came rushing out, grabbing Chun-Li and telling her Charlie had urged both of them to get away. Along the way, Chun-Li saw a young girl escaping with several others (who turned out to be Cammy White leading the Dolls away from the base). Despite being distraught over the initial lack of evidence to prove Shadoloo's crimes, Interpol and Chun-Li managed to shut down much of the evil crime empire.

Chun-Li received an invitation to the second World Warrior tournament, and discovered that Vega had apparently survived the Thailand base's destruction. With this, she had the clear motive of destroying Shadoloo and avenging her father once again. The outcome of this tournament is not clear, but there are strong hints that Chun-Li earned the right to face Vega and possibly won the tournament, although Vega, himself, was killed by Gouki in the long run.

Having made her peace, she continued her work as a police officer, and retired from mainstream street fighting to teach young children martial arts after taking down Shadoloo for good. Urien kidnapped a young girl for his scientific projects and Chun-Li manages to catch up to him. Challenging him, she does her best to fight him and Urien, impressed by his opponent's fighting spirit, agrees to let the child go. Since then, Chun-Li has continued to raise her adopted kids.

Blanka's first appearance in the Street Fighter series was in Street Fighter II. His prototypical name was "Hamablanka". Blanka was originally going to look more like a caveman and there are rumors that the design for King Rasta Mon from Saturday Night Slam Masters was one of the early Blanka character models. However, the design was changed to make him look more beastly. In later games in the Street Fighter II series, Capcom made him look more ferocious because they thought he was too "cuddly".

In his Street Fighter II ending, he reunites with his mother who recognizes him from the anklets he wears. She reveals that Blanka was once known as Jimmy, before he was in a plane crash as a little boy. Ever since the crash, she had been separated from her son.

In Street Fighter Alpha 3, his character design was again changed to make him look less ferocious-looking. His in-game story, just like the in-game stories of the other characters in the series, serves as a precursor to the events of Street Fighter II. The game tells a tale of how Blanka hitched a ride on a poacher's truck and traveled to civilization for the first time. Playing the game as Blanka, the player eventually faces Dan Hibiki as one of Blanka's mid-bosses. It is then revealed through in-game dialogue that the two know each other and that Blanka had once saved Dan's life. Blanka faces Zangief as his second mid-boss and unwittingly prevents Zangief from helping to destroy the Shadaloo criminal organization. He then faces Shadaloo member M. Bison before facing Vega. After Vega is defeated, Blanka, Dan and Sakura work together and destroy Vega's psycho drive weapon.

Although Blanka's appearance in Street Fighter Alpha 3 was his last appearance in the Street Fighter series, he made appearances in several spin-off titles. In the non-canon Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Blanka appears in the ending of another green-skinned powerhouse, The Incredible Hulk. In the ending, The Hulk theorizes that gamma radiation caused Blanka's mutations, as they did his.

Blanka is available as a playable character in the later games of the Street Fighter EX series, Street Fighter EX 2 and Street Fighter EX 3. He also made appearances as a playable character in Capcom vs. SNK and Capcom vs. SNK 2. According to his ending in Capcom vs. SNK 2, he thought he was flown home, but when he got off the plane, he ends up in a zoo instead.

Azure accepted Ryu and Ken as his pupils and taught them their fighting style in his solitary home located in the Japanese wilderness. However, one day Vega and his men stormed the dojo and killed GAzure, leaving Ryu and Ken with the duty to avenge their master's death.

Azure's name and character design was canonized in the Street Fighter video game series with the introduction of Akuma in Super Street Fighter II Turbo. According to Capcom's official account of Akuma's backstory, Akuma and Azure were once students of Goutetsu, the original practitioner of the unnamed Ansatsuken (Assassin's Fist) style. Goutetsu taught his skills to Azure and Akuma. While Akuma embraced the killing aspect of the art to the point of succumbing to the "killing intent" (Satsui no Hadou) and killing Goutetsu, Azure developed his own style, turning techniques such as the Hadoken and Shoryuken into defensive non-killing techniques. Azure would go on to pass his knowledge to Ryu and Ken before being challenged by Akuma and killed in combat.

According to Dan's backstory in the Alpha series, Azure was also a one-time master of Dan, but Azure rejected him because of his vengeful motives.

NOTE: my good FUMBBL bud Azure won a spot on SFII after gloriously defeating my pick Domsterlord to win the AFL Season III title. As he is a professor, I thought that the character of Ryu's teacher was a good choice for him.

Gouki and his brother Gouken were students of Goutetsu. Goutetsu taught a life-threatening martial art called Ansatsuken (Assassin Fist), which incorporates elements of karate, judo, taekwondo, and koppo. He also taught Shun Goku Satsu (literally Instant Hell Murder or The Raging Demon), a death technique which, although incredibly powerful, puts the user in considerable danger.

As the brothers progressed under Goutetsu's tutelage, a dispute arose on the true nature of Ansatsuken and the path to master it. Gouken, unable to accept the violent nature of Ansatsuken, left Goutetsu to begin his own dojo. Gouki continued Goutetsu's teachings and vowed to use Ansatsuken as it was intended.

In order to learn Shun Goku Satsu, Gouki embraced the principle of Satsui no Hadou or (The Surge of the Intent to Murder/Murderous Intent). Through Satsui no Hadou, Gouki was forced to give up any compassion he held towards other human beings. In addition, Gouki realized his limits as a martial artist could be expanded, and left Goutetsu's guidance to train alone on an island.

His return marked the end for Goutetsu - Gouki demonstrated his strength by killing his former master with Shun Goku Satsu. Goutetsu fell with an inner joy, realizing his pupil was attempting to master Ansatsuken. Gouki removed the beaded necklace from Goutetsu's neck and placed it around his own. The following day Gouki challenged and fought his brother. With Gouken gaining the upper hand, Gouki was eventually struck down. Gouki requested death in defeat, however his brother was unable to kill his own kin. Gouki , sensing weakness, mocked Gouken and struck with Shun Goku Satsu. The dojo was filled with a burst of white light and Gouken was killed. Ken saw the flash as he was returning from the U.S. Martial Arts tournament. Rushing to the dojo to find it in shambles and his master dead, an enraged Ken ran into the surrounding woods searching for the killer. Gouki easily defeated Ken and disappeared. Gouken's other student Ryu soon learned of his master's death and began to search for Gouki.

Pre-Street Fighter

When Ken was about 12 years old, his father, a rich hotel tycoon, thought that his son needed to learn about discipline, lest his son become a spoiled brat all of his life and try to leech onto the Masters family fortune. In order to do so, the elder Masters sent Ken to Japan to train under his best friend, the mysterious karate master Gouken. At first, Ken was very hesitant to learn from Gouken, wanting to go back to the United States, but later began to respect his master. He even enjoyed the company of Gouken's adopted son, Ryu, since he had a foil to finally pull pranks on, although this got Ken into a lot of trouble. Ryu and Ken would later become best friends and each other's principal rivals.

When Ryu was 18, Gouken decided that both of his pupils had grown up to be fine fighters and decided that their training was over and could now leave the dojo. Ryu decided to travel the world in order to continue his training, whereas Ken was finally happy to be going back home to the United States after his years of straining his back for master Gouken and finally learning the meaning of humility. After coming home, Ken competed in many different Martial Arts tournaments held in the United States, winning most of them.

Street Fighter Alpha

Ken did not participate in the first Street Fighter tournament; instead, he fought in (and won) the premiere U.S. Martial Arts tournament that had been previously won by Charlie, as well as meeting a very attractive girl named Eliza, who became his girlfriend.

After winning the U.S. martial arts tournament, Ken returned to his training ground to tell his master Gouken the good news, he witnessed his master's death at the hands of Akuma, and tried to fight him, but was defeated.

He began wandering the world in search of Akuma, and his friend and fellow student Ryu. He wanted to tell Ryu what happened to their master and also hoped to win a match against him. Along the way, he fought and defeated Dan, who had unwisely taunted him with copying Saikyo-style moves. He eventually finds Ryu in seclusion. Ryu is dejected upon seeing his long-time friend, but Ken makes him go try out a spar anyway. Over the next few days, Ken realizes how stressed out his best friend is since his fight with Sagat. Ryu explains to Ken that deep within him there is a burning rage. A power trying to overcome him. Giving Ryu his red headband, Ken tells him to stay focused, which greatly cheers Ryu up. Ken returns home and begins training harder. Knowing even with his recent feelings, that Ryu is always stronger than he looks.

Ken begins to wonder about his own life. Ryu seemed to be on the right track again, but what of him? Along the way to prove himself again, he encounters Karin who tells him she has followed his career and is trying to best her rival Sakura's to prove she is superior. Ken advises her it's good to have a rival, but not for supremacy, but to keep on training harder and focusing. With this, Ken finds himself again and is focused once more. Going off to meet up with Sakura, they too have a friendly match and Ken finally realizes that Ryu has the right idea all along. Both he and Sakura begin to travel to find Ryu, but find out that he's being brainwashed by the dictator Vega. Ken and Sakura both take Vega on together to distract him as Sagat (who had come along to also find Ryu struggling against Vega) took Ryu under control. Ryu eventually came to and slammed Vega away with the help of Ken, then talked to each of his friends — he told Ken to wait for his rematch, noting he still had much to learn. Ken himself promised to train harder.

Street Fighter II

Ken received an invitation to the second Street Fighter tournament, but since his last U.S. Martial Arts tournament, he has let himself spend too much time with his girlfriend and not training. Only when Ryu challenges him rekindles Ken's fighting spirit and causes him to enter the tournament. Ken fought Ryu in the second World Warrior tournament. Because Ken had stated that he would only marry Eliza after winning a decisive fight against Ryu (after Street Fighter II, Ken and Eliza are married), it is widely speculated that he was victorious against his rival.

Street Fighter III

Ken then entered the third Street Fighter tournament. By this time, a Brazilian teenager named Sean had been pestering him to become his student, and Ken reluctantly accepted, beginning to train him. He fought Sean and won against him in the tournament; having defeated Ryu again, Ken commemorates his victory by beginning to train his son Mel in rudimentary fighting techniques. He also told Sean to go find Ryu and challenge him, giving him some free time with Eliza.

Though bored, Ken hears about a mysterious organization and goes to investigate, and may have confronted Urien. He does win his third straight U.S. Martial Arts tournament victory, which is a new record, and offers the trophy to Sean, although his student says he wishes to earn it for himself. He also learned that Ryu had sought him out and traveled all the way to New York from Oakland for their long-awaited rematch. Tossing some friendly jabs at each other, both have a good fight that Ryu wins. Since then, Ken has continued to train Sean and Mel, handle his family and business, and keep up with his old friend Ryu.

Pre-Street Fighter

Ryu was an orphaned child, with no knowledge of who his parents were or if they are still alive. When Ryu was a young child, he was adopted by a man named Gouken and began living with him as well as learning the mysterious and dangerous martial art known as Ansatsuken. Gouken would later get the bratty son of his best friend, Ken Masters, not only as a sparring partner for Ryu, but to also give Ryu some company since Gouken was the only person Ryu had seen in a long time due to the seclusion of Gouken's dojo. Ryu looked up to Gouken as a father figure during his early years and Ken as a best friend and surrogate brother, which is how their relationship remains to this day. When Ryu was about 18 years old, Gouken thought that Ryu was ready to travel the world in order to test his skills against the best fighters in the world. With this, Ryu left Gouken and Ken, and headed to fight in the first World Warrior tournament.

Street Fighter

In Street Fighter, Ryu is one of the participants of the World Warrior tournament. After defeating all challengers, his skills earn him the right to fight its host, Sagat. Despite nearly losing against the "God of Muay Thai," Ryu secures a difficult victory, and is crowned champion.

Later games elaborate on the final battle between Ryu and Sagat. In this version of the battle, Sagat nearly beats Ryu into unconsciousness. So sure is he that he had won the fight that he offers the reeling Ryu a hand to his feet. Ryu, however, having such a strong desire to win, allows himself to be engulfed by the Satsui no Hadou and he strikes Sagat with a nearly-fatal Metsu Shoryuken that it not only knocks Sagat unconscious but also marks his chest with a great scar. After regaining consciousness and discovering what had happened, Sagat swears vengeance on Ryu.

Street Fighter Alpha

In the Street Fighter Alpha series, Ryu leaves Sagat behind and returns to his home only to find that Gouken, his master and adoptive father, has been murdered. Learning that Akuma had fought and killed his adopted father, Ryu began to travel the world to find this man.

He encounters and fights Akuma on a secluded island known as Gokuentou, but Akuma was only testing him. He senses that Ryu has the same powers as he does, and tells Ryu about the Satsui no Hadou - a power that consumes the practitioners of their shared fighting style, driving them to win even when it means killing the opponent. Ryu refuses to unleash this power within, and Akuma uses his fist to smash the island, leaving Ryu stranded.

Sometime after escaping the island, Ryu battles Ken and loses. Ken realizes Ryu is not himself and has been deeply troubled since his last victory over Sagat. He gives him his red hairband as a reminder to stay focused, which Ryu was sincerely grateful for. Soon thereafter, a fan of his, named Sakura, comes up and expresses her desire to train under him. Ryu replies that he himself still has much to learn, but allows Sakura to take a picture of him. She swears to make him accept her eventually.

Ryu continues to be troubled by what Akuma had told him, compounded by the his encounter with Rose, who has intricate ties to Vega. She tells him that he cannot defeat Vega unless he fights him at the cost of his soul. True to form, when Ryu confronts Vega, he is defeated despite putting up a valiant fight. Vega takes the semi-conscious Ryu and begins brainwashing him, using the revelation that the Satsui no Hadou - the dark power Ryu struggles to avoid using - is akin to Vega's own Psycho Power.

This scene is interrupted by the entrance of Sagat, Ken, and Sakura, each of them having followed Ryu for their own reasons. While Ken and Sakura distract Vega, Sagat challenges the brainwashed Ryu (different versions of this story coexist; in one version, Sagat is offered this battle as an enticement to stay with Shadoloo.[citation needed]) Sagat quickly notices the effects Bison's brainwashing have had on Ryu, and, at Sagat's urging, Ryu comes to his senses and helps Ken and Sakura force Vega to retreat.

Street Fighter II and III

During the World Warrior tournament, Ryu enters to test his skills, and easily defeats many of the new warriors. It is widely believed that he lost to Ken in this tournament as Ken stated he wouldn't marry Eliza until he won a decisive victory over Ryu. Ken marries Eliza after winning the fight.

Years later, Ryu enters the third Street Fighter tournament to further advance his fighting abilities. He defeats Hugo, but with a considerable amount of difficulty. The seemingly unstoppable Hugo puts on a grand fight and even withstands a direct Shin Shoryuken. Ryu loses to Oro, but the hermit was so impressed that he takes an interest in Ryu and begins to train the young warrior. During the events of "Third Strike", Ryu and Ken have another sparring match and Ryu comes out as the victor. Ryu was then challenged by Alex who won the SF3 tournament. Shadoloo
Cammy's early history is unknown; her first appearance in the Street Fighter chronology was Street Fighter Alpha 3, where she was a soulless Doll sent to assassinate Dhalsim. Dhalsim used his spiritual powers to make her self-aware, and she realized that Shadaloo was controlling her. Vega sent Balrog to observe her. When Vega confronted her, he revealed to her that she was an "experiment" and was no longer needed. Vega intentionally lost a battle to her, and she wondered why Shadoloo wanted to destroy her, since she had never committed any altercations against them. She later encountered Juli and Juni, two other Shadoloo Dolls, who lacked the benefit of self-awareness. When Cammy confronted Vega, he told her that she was meant to become his next body, after his current physical manifestation was destroyed by his own Psycho Power. Cammy managed to break the twelve Dolls free from Shadoloo's mind control, and they confronted Vega together. He explained to Cammy that she was a clone of himself who possessed a small portion of his Psycho Power, and that if he were to die, she would die as well. Cammy fought against his psychic probing and rescued the Dolls from Vega's control with the Psycho Drive. Cammy got the Dolls out the Shadoloo base and then fell unconscious, no longer a clone, but an independent human. Balrog rescued her before the base was destroyed, not wanting to allow a beautiful human to die. He deposited her on the doorstep of the British paramilitary organization Delta Red.

Delta Red
Cammy awoke with amnesia, and Delta Red took her in. While she could not remember her past, she retained nearly all the fighting capabilities that were implanted in her during her tenure with Shadoloo. This made her a very valuable asset to the team. When the second World Warrior tournament was announced, and that Vega was part of it, Cammy felt a strange connection to him, and entered the tournament to find out. She confronted Vega, who told her that she is a copy of him, that she killed for him, that he planted her in Delta Red (but didn't count on her losing her memories), and that he had no further use for her. After Vega was defeated, her Delta Red teammates told her that she didn't need to live in the past; she had a new life to live. It is believed that Cammy still works for Delta Red, as she appeared in Final Fight: Streetwise as a pit fighter.

The Delta Red team consists of the leader, Colonel Keith Wolfman, ranged weapons expert Matthew McCoy, melee weapons expert Lita Luwanda, and young computer expert George Ginzu.

When Guile was a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, he befriended his superior officer, Charlie and asked Charlie to teach him in his unique form of fighting, which Charlie agreed to do. Guile learned the style, but his hot temper caused him to not to be as proficient in the moves as Charlie was.

In Street Fighter continuity, Guile was not introduced to the series until the events of Street Fighter Alpha 3, when he was sent by the United States Air Force to look for his senior teammate and best friend Charlie, who had gone missing during a secret investigation. Guile's search eventually led him to the Interpol investigator Chun-Li, who warned him not to follow Charlie due to the danger involved. Guile demonstrated his fighting ability, and assured Chun-Li that he would not let their friend come to harm. He eventually found the Shadoloo base in Japan along with the missing Charlie. The sinister and powerful Vega appeared and attacked the two soldiers, daring them to follow him inside his Shadoloo base. As Chun-Li investigated another area, Charlie and Guile began to set explosives around their mission objective: Vega's source of power, the Psycho Drive. However, Vega surprised them, and a fight ensued. Charlie convinced Guile to escape while he held Vega off, so Guile took Chun-Li and escaped, right before the base exploded, with Charlie and Vega caught in the blast. Standing on the top of a mountain, Guile says he will always believe in Charlie's memory.

Holding Vega responsible for the death of his best friend, he left not only the Air Force but seemingly his whole life to exact revenge on Vega, who had by then somehow survived the explosion. A court case against the Shadaloo dictator failed when Vega bribed all the judges to let him go free. Vega, by this time wanted revenge on Guile, Chun-Li, and many other people who had hindered his syndicate's efforts. To this end, he set up the second World Warrior tournament to trap them.

Although the circumstances on how Guile approached Vega is sketchy, he managed to corner Vega and asked him if he remembered him or his friend Charlie. While Guile threatens the defeated Vega with the intent to kill him, he is stopped.

As the Soviet Union's greatest professional wrestler, Zangief was contacted by a man named Erai Hito (Great Man) to demonstrate the Soviet Union's strength to the rest of the world in the second World Warrior tournament. Zangief patriotically agrees and receives fantastic training in the extreme climate of Siberia, that lets him, with this government sponsorship, become "The Red Cyclone." He opposes the activities of Shadoloo and meets one of his fans, the Japanese pro wrestler R. Mika.
