Dorfl is one of the old golems baked from clay. He collaborated with several other old golems in making a golem king, hoping that the king might lead them out of slavery (which shows perhaps even regular golems with a standard holy-word chem have personal initiative). While this attempt faltered and golems were being destroyed in the streets, Captain Carrot bought Dorfl off his original owner and put the sales receipt in place of the standard chem. Dorfl rapidly acquired a personality, and became the golem who cleaned up the mess of the king golem. Dorfl was dismembered in the process and his sales-receipt chem was crumpled up. Captain Carrot collected the pieces and had him re-baked; upon Mr. Vimes's order, they slightly re-engineered Dorfl during the re-baking to give him a voice. Afterwards, Dorfl joined the Ankh-Morpork City Watch, and is the force's first "ceramic policeman". He is an atheist, and resistant to thunderbolts and hellfires.

Adora Belle Dearheart is the object of Moist von Lipwig's affections, which she returns grudgingly during most of Going Postal, with the exception of the end. As is obvious by her nickname given by Moist, "Spike", she isn't that adorable, nor is she a 'dearheart'. Yes, Moist would like to fall in love with her. The nickname given by her late brother John Dearheart is more honest and straightforward: "Killer".

Delphine Angua von Überwald is the first werewolf in the Ankh-Morpork City Watch, hired under Lord Vetinari's "special hiring procedures", at the same time as Detritus (a troll) and Cuddy (a dwarf). Angua has a romantic connection with Carrot Ironfoundersson although she finds his politeness and ability to see everybody's point of view frustrating. Also, she isn't always sure of his character. Whilst he appears constantly sincere, simple and literal, occasionally a more complex and manipulative character emerges.

Sam Vimes was born in Cockbill Street, the Shades, Ankh-Morpork, and went to the local school, where he was a blackboard monitor. After that, he spent some time in street gangs, then signed in the Night Watch, shortly before the birth of the Glorious People's Republic of Treacle Mine Road during the Glorious Revolution. He then made his way to the top, and was Captain when the Night Watch consisted of four people: him, Sergeant Colon, Corporal Nobbs, and newly appointed Constable Carrot. It is at this time that the Watch began to grow again, and Vimes was made Commander, with which came the unwanted rank of Knight, then, even more unwanted, the Duke of Ankh, by Lord Vetinari, the Patrician of Ankh-Morpork. He also married Lady Sybil Ramkin, the richest woman in Ankh-Morpork, and has a son, called Sam. He is the descendant of 'Old Stoneface' Vimes who committed regicide to end the monarchy in Ankh-Morpork; this relation causes frequent comparisons of Sam to his ancestor.

The first zombie member of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch. Originally a dead rights activist (founder of the Fresh Start Club), Reg Shoe has been organizing meetings, trying to rouse the dead from their graves, and complaining about the Watch treating undead citizens unfairly. When once he complained to Captain Carrot Ironfoundersson, Reg Shoe was offered a position in the Watch so that he might give insights on how matters can be better handled. He then quickly became the main source of complaints made to the Watch by undead citizens. On the whole, however, Reg is considered by Commander Vimes to be a good Watchman.

Mr. Slant is the head of the Guild of Lawyers in Ankh-Morpork. He is always involved in shadowy business but never caught out committing a crime. He died ages ago, but that has never stopped him from continuing his work.

It is usually reported that he became a zombie as he wished to pursue the financial disbursements involved in conducting his own defence at the trial that lead to his execution.

In The Truth we discover that one of the few things he fears is fire.

Among the people who fear Mr Slant are the rest of the lawyers of Ankh-Morpork, as seen in Making Money. Not only has he read those big intimidating books that they keep behind them on shelves to scare their clients, he has in fact WRITTEN many of them. Plus he has been around so long that he almost counts as legal precedent on his own.

Mr Bendy works on The Times as an obituarist. As such he is uniquely qualified because he is himself dead. He was one of those people with such an overriding need to stay around (generally the extremely anally retentive) that he came back to non-life as a zombie. The first obituary he submitted to The Times was, in fact, his own.

Baron Saturday is the zombie consort of Erzulie Gogol, father of Ella Saturday and deposed ruler of Genua. The events of Witches Abroad are centred around the problems caused in Genua by Lilith de Tempscire and the unfolding of a seemingly-fairytale narrative being disrupted by Granny Weatherwax and her coven in the name of good. Baron Saturday is of course Roundworld's Baron Samedi ("Saturday" in French), the chief Voodoo god (or loa) who stands at the crossroads between life and death, and is a symbol of sexuality, noted for disruption, obscenity, debauchery, and having a particular fondness for tobacco and rum. Perhaps his most famous incarnation in the western world is as a character in the novel and film version of Ian Fleming's Live and Let Die.

When we first meet Windle he is a wheelchair-bound old wizard who does not hear much and doesn't do much. His wheelchair is used in the battle against the creatures from Holy Wood. In Reaper Man, he is supposed to die, but as Death is ...not available, he instead turns into a Zombie and joins the Fresh Start Club. During his time as a zombie, he loses bodily functions, and is forced to make his heart beat, his lungs breathe and his muscles move all using his head. It is doubtful that he would have been succesful without his years of training as a wizard. Death can't be denied for long, however, and eventually he has a chat with him and Windle dies on the Brass Bridge. He felt that the few days of excitement more than made up for the century of boredom. A couple of Windle's many years are in doubt, since the Discworld Timeline says he was born in 1857, but died at 130 in 1985.

Mighty Blow
The long-dead leader of Borogravia.

It is thought that the news of her death was withheld from the people of Borogravia as deliberate policy. Faced with an ongoing debilitating war, famine and starvation, with the only alternative being the insane god Nuggan, it is no accident that the fervent wish for change for the better expressed by the people has found a catalyst in the form of the fervent believer Wazzer Goom.

Through Wazzer the Duchess lives again as an anthropomorphic personification and is able to communicate her wishes to her generals.

CMOT Dibbler or Cut-Me-Own-Throat Dibbler is a fixture in the street life of Ankh-Morpork , where he is a perpetually failing salesman. He gets fancy new ideas (such as feng-shui consulting, or selling stale rocks to trolls) which never work. Sometimes he sells things that don't belong to him or don't even exist (although such business practices are rather common in Ankh-Morpork). Dibbler has sometimes managed to be the top manager in a blooming new industry (like in Moving Pictures or Soul Music), but by chance or luck or simply because it's the semi-real Discworld (where magical phenomena bloom but don't last long), he consistently fails. Fortunately, he always has a backup trade to fall back on: selling sausages-in-a-bun, the sausage made not of pork but rather of anything that's been near a pig. Dibbler's sausages taste awful, but with a lot of sizzling onions and persistent price-cutting, Dibbler always manages to make a living by selling these sausages to people who have gotten sick from his sausages before. This demonstrates that he is a very good salesman.

Cecil Wormsborough St John Nobbs, usually called Nobby, has a long history in the Pratchett world, most of which is unsavoury. This probably pertains to his person rather than any particular act: Nobby, perhaps, should have been disqualified from the human race (for shoving). Nobby likes to take small things that nobody is watching, but that perhaps is not very rare in Ankh-Morpork. He had been a street urchin, and it appears that he has never grown out of the habits he acquired back then. Nobby ain't half bad, and he looks after his mates, but he looks after himself first, as you do, and I didn't do it, it was Fred, see?

Nobby has been a corporal in the Ankh-Morpork City Watch for quite a while, and is quite determined to stay at that rank. Nobby knows all about why not to volunteer no matter how many incentives are offered. He has been in many military regiments, and was once Quartermaster for the Pseudopolis army; Pseudopolis always lost its wars due to a mysterious shortage of weapons. In his spare time, Nobby is a member of the Ankh-Morpork Folk Dance and Song Society and the historical re-enactment society, the Peeled Nuts. During his old friend Fred Colon's short reign as Captain of the Watch, Nobby served as the opposition leader, President of the Watchmen's Guild.

Sure Hands
Technically a dwarf, Carrot Ironfoundersson was adopted by dwarfs but is in fact human. This made growing up difficult, especially since dwarves are smaller than the typical human (Nobby Nobbs, as always is an exception to this rule) and Carrot is taller than the typical human. Carrot's adopted father sent him to Ankh-Morpork to join the Ankh-Morpork City Watch in Guards! Guards!. He is an exemplary policeman, but can be seen by others as too polite. In anyone else it would be suspicious; with Carrot however it is sincere. He has an old sword, and a funny birthmark. Carrot is not completely without prejudices, or perhaps quirks. A legacy of his upbringing by Dwarfs, who are reticent on some matters, is that he finds it very, very, difficult to talk about...er... gender-related issues. He therefore found the desire of some Dwarfs to openly differentiate themselves as female to be very difficult to accept, and this prudish, conservative, streak caused one of his first real rows with Angua.

Guye is an old, somewhat senile werewolf, and yet nominal leader of the most powerful werewolf clan in Bonk, Überwald. In him, the human and wolf are so close that he has an attitude closely resembling an old dog. He is guided by his wife, a scheming, though somewhat cowardly werewolf, and intimidated by his son (Wolfgang von Überwald), a vicious brute, even for werewolves. He is somewhat like an incompetent Magpyr – an old school werewolf, kind of reassuring in a tear-out-your-throat sort of way. He is Angua's father.

Mrs. Drull is a ghoul. She is - or was - one of the regular attendees that Windle Poons met at Reg Shoe's Fresh Start Club in Ankh-Morpork during the events described in Reaper Man. She didn't really feature in the book other than as a background character, but she gave Lupine the Werewolf a chance to advise Windle not to try one of her meat pasties:

'Oh dear,' said Windle, 'she doesn't make them out of humans does she?'

'What? Oh no - she's just not a very good cook!'
