Psylocke, the sister of Captain Britain had both her eyes gouged out by villain Slaymaster, with Betsy declining cybernetic replacements as she felt she could rely on her telepathy. Eventually though she was kidnapped by Mojo, brainwashed and he installed cybernetic eyes anyway.

After recovering she joined the X-Men, using her precognition to save the team in the Savage Land, but suffering from amnesia she finds herself waking on a Chinese island, to be trained as a ninja by The Hand.

Betsy was killed in X-Treme X-Men Vol #2 by Vargas, because someone's diary predicted he would be stabbed to death with a knife by Rogue and he wanted to see if the diary had prophetic powers (Betsy was mentioned later in the diary).

Turns out the journal was just a journal, and he was eventually killed by Harpoon (with a harpoon).

Daughter of billionaire diplomat Hugo Natchios, Elektra was born prematurely when her older brother hired assassins to murder her mother while she was pregnant. This leaves her to be raised by her father, who in Elektra: Assassin #1 is revealed to abuse her as a 5-year old (really, why is this in a comic? You know kids are going to read this...)

Although Elektra is trained by a man named Stick, a member of the benevolent organization called the Chaste - she ultimately sides with an organisation called The Hand. Supposedly they are the bad guys.

She is killed by Bullseye, who wants to steal her job - but The Hand attempts to resurrect her but are foiled by her lover, Matt Murdoch. Um, thanks Matt...

Mighty Blow
The original "Woman in Refrigerator" and team captain.

In Green Lantern vol. 3, #54 she is murdered, cut into pieces and left in a refrigerator by Major Force because, um, well... She's dating Green Lantern Kyle Rayner and Major Force wants to get his attention. What happened to a paper bag full of manure set on fire on his doorstep?

Also went on the kill former Green Lantern Arisia by suffocation because she was friends with Green Lantern Guy Gardener. Gardener goes on to gain vengeance and seemingly kills Force, but as fate would have it, Force is made of energy and not matter - he cannot die and has effectively gained immortality.

Many would ask, then why not just try to kill Kyle and Guy?

Married to Elongated man Ralph Dibney, was murdered by Jean Loring in Identity Crisis #1.

Loring had previous been the girlfriend of Ray Palmer, The Atom. After refusing his marriage proposals to concentrate on her career as a lawyer, she finally has a change of heart when he is seemingly killed by the Bug-Eyed Bandit. Turns out he's not dead though and they manage to get hitched. Eventually their marriage breaks down after she is caught having an affair.

Realising she has made an awful mistake, she hatches a long winded plan to win Ray back, by scaring Sue Dibney. Thinking a good scare would cause all the superheroes to run back to the arms of their WAGS, she devises a plan and borrows one of the Atom's old costumes and runs into Sue's brain. Simple plan right, what could go wrong?

Naturally, the with-child Sue suffers a major aneurysm and dies on the spot, and Loring goes crazy.

Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na Batgirl!!!

On her way to a costume ball in Gotham City dressed as Batman, the daughter of Commissioner Gordon springs into action when and foils a group of villains attempting to kidnap Bruce Wayne.

She continues her escapades as a crime fighter eventually being told to stop by Batman as she was not qualified (apparently a PhD isn't enough, you needs to join a gang of thieves in China).

In Batman: The Killing Joke, the Joker kidnaps the commissioner, shooting Barbara in their home - leaving her as a paraplegic in a wheelchair. Batman ends up defeating the Joker, and they spend the final scene laughing about it all, after all you have to smile about these things.

5 years later, Batman finds himself in the same predicament when Bane breaks his back. Batman, being the genius he is, works out a cure for paraplegia - but unluckily for Barbara he forgets to mention it to her.

Damn.

One of 5 founding members of the Avengers in 1963 (Avengers #1), not only did "The Wasp" come up with the name for the faction, becomes the leader in the 1980's after she divorces then paranoid, overbearing and verbally abusive Ant-Man who had concocted a plan to make himself look good in front of the Avengers by staging an attack that can only he could stop.

Of course rather that being allowed to be the leader she is given the designation of "Chairperson". After handing off the leadership to Vision, she becomes the leader again, before handing over to Cpt America in the Secret War storyline, before being captured by Magneto, eventually outsmarting and defeating him single handedly leaving the rest of the Avengers to do cleanup.

During the Under Siege storyline, she becomes the leader for a third time, this time eventually handing over to Captain Marvel.

She then joins the West Coast Avengers as a reserve member. Although only being a reserve she still manages to become their leader.

During Destiny War in the 90's she becomes the leader for a 5th time, and then for a 6th time in the 2000's, before reconciling with her ex-husband Ant Man on 2005, after Avengers Disassembled. Although reconciled, she refuses to re-marry him.

In Mighty Avengers, Ant Man gives The Wasp a refined growth formula which allows her to shift to giant-size without side effects. Eventually, she realises that her husband is an undercover Skrull, and the serum she was given has turned her into a bio-bomb. After leaving the battlefield, and drawing as many Skrulls to her as she can, she explodes. Afterwards, Ant-Man starts wearing he suit. Yeah, it got weird. Right there.

When Major Carol Danvers meets Dr. Walter Lawson (Captain Mar-Velll), she doesn't know this is the beginning of a major change on her life. Caught in an explosion together, Mar-Vell (who is really in alien with super powers) manages to save Danver's life, albeit sustaining serious injuries.

In a landmark moment for equality in comics, "Ms. Marvel" #1 is published 1977, and is lauded as progressive, beyond it time. On top of her superhero duties, she also fights for equal pay for equal work in her civilian identity. Naturally, she is then kidnapped by a time traveler from the future named Marcus, who brainwashes and impregnates her.

She then becomes alcoholic, and is suspended from the Avengers in disgrace.

Eventually she returns to Avengers duty, until Secret Invasion - when Norman Osborne (Super Villain Green Goblin), becomes the leader of the Avengers, at which point she walks out and joins the New Avengers, with Osborne recruiting fellow villain, Karla Sofen (Moonstone) to be the new Ms Marvel. Osborne then causes Danvers powers to overload causing her death. After pledging to defend the human race, Sofen is then accepted as Ms Marvel, which no-one else seems to have a problem with.

Gwen Stacy debuted in The Amazing Spiderman #31 and was Peter Parker's long term girlfriend for 8 years, before being abducted by supervillain, the Green Goblin (Norman Osborne).

Chased and cornered by Spiderman on a bridge, Green Goblin (needing to distract Spidermen to escape) drops Stacey off the bridge knowing that Spiderman can easily save her. Rather the swinging down and scooping her he shoots her with his web to stop the fall, with the resulting whiplash killing her instantly. Idiot.

He goes on to capture Osborne, but can't bring himself to kill him. The aftermath of it all? Peter in dating MJ within a week, and Norman goes on to kill Carol Danvers because she quit the Avengers rather than work with him.

I guess we can credit Spiderman for the double play...

Debbie Harris dated "Foggy" Nelson in junior high. She ended up in jail as she was part of an assassination attempt to kill the mayor.

Once released she contacted Foggy and resumed her relationship with him, hampering his attempt to become district attorney as she was an ex-convict. Despite this difficulty, Foggy still married her.

The marriage didn't last though, as she wanted more than a boring lawyer - eventually leading to an affair with Micah Synn and then a divorce. After exposing Micah as a villainous killer, Foggy offered to reconcile, Deborah declined and started dating a man named Carleton Corona.

Alright, she's not a super hero, but the writes have dod this poor girl no favours in the 20 years she was in daredevil.

Linda Park is an American/Korean actress who played Hoshi Sato on Star Trek Enterprise in all 4 seasons before it was thankfully cancelled. It was really bad. After 17 years of having some of the most amazing Star Trek on TV (Next Gen, DS9, Voyager), we had to wait 12 years to get over this pile of steaming crap and get Discovery.

Linda Park is also an American/Korean journalist from Keystone City who, although greatly disliking the Flash, ends up marrying Wally West (The Flash). She is in such empowering storylines as "Linda almost gets Wally killed by the Black Flash", "Linda gets her mind completely erased by Abra Kadabra" and "Linda gets pregnant with twins, miscarries, but is some how pregnant again because Wally screws around with the time line".

In Infinite Crisis #4, after an epic battle with the evil Superboy-Prime, The Flash, Wally West is about to be sucked into the Speed Force for eternity, and has just has enough time to say goodbye to Linda. She grabs the twin babies and kisses him, causing her (and the twins) to also get sucked into the Speed Force.

Surely, that can't be a good resolution.

Stephanie Brown first appeared as Spoiler in Detective Comics (Batman) #647. As Batman does battle with the Cluemaster, Spoiler (Cluemasters daughter) spoils her father's machinations, helping Bruce Wayne and Tim Drake - eventually finding herself romantically involved with the third Robin.

Life is complicated however as she is pregnant from an old boyfriend and eventually decides to give up the child to adoption as she is now technically an orphan herself.

With Tim being regularly away for a number of reasons (boarding school, secret missions to Tibet, etc..), Stephanie begins training with Bruce as to help him as an offsider. After Tim's father finds out his secret identity, he forbids him from superheroing, insisting he hangs up the cape. Becoming the 4th Robin, she works with Batman for over 5 years, until working on a long term plan to deal with Gotham's criminal underworld she is captured and tortured by Black Mask, eventually dying in Batman;s arms. Her finals words were "Was I ever really Robin?" with Batman acknowledging "Of course you were".

Unlike, the second Robin, Jason Todd however, no memorial was erected in the Batcave - which is weird as it felt like Jason, was Robin for about 2 weeks and Stephanie put in 5 years. Also interesting to note that Batman unleashed hell on the Joker after killing Todd, but did bugger all after finding out that the treating doctor who was caring for Stephanie, actually decided to withhold lifesaving treatment from her as her thought it would serve as a good example to discourage the youth of Gotham from engaging in vigilantism. Weak effort dude.
