Legend Skill Choice
The team is Slim Chance Brigade.

The player is Wynn Loon.

The roll is 4+6.

They've just won their quali to enter the main draw of the LC and I obviously have no intention of playing any bridge games between now and the start. I am equally inclined towards +MA and LEAP.

+MA on blitzers and catchers are high value for pro elves, and increasing the range of a ST5 tackler is strong.

LEAP on a ST5 guard/tackler changes the entire way my opponents will play, similar to having a wizard. The team has no current leap threat, but the Sandrooster penetrates cages often already. 3+ leaping is less reliable, obviously, but the successes, and the POTENTIAL for successes will have huge effect.

What's the call, or am I missing a 3rd option?

EDIT: Further options.

SURE HANDS for the perfect runner, utterly defiant of ball hawks.

FRENZY for the huge surf threat.

I'd like to put frenzy on him. I'd also like to put leap on another player and give him the MA.

I think sadly though, I'd give him leap instead of the MA. I wouldn't sleep that night mind...

If you are willing to ignore the +MA, you should also consider Diving Tackle. He has all skills he needed to mark (Blodge, Side Step, Tackle) and ST 5 will it make really difficult to get rid of him (and your opponents will rarely get more than one proper shot, even if you side-step into contact of his other players.

I like DT players, but I don't know that is as powerfully dynamic as the other choices. ST5 Sure Hands creates almost all bad leaping hawk options, and dauntless gutter runners have a risky roll to make. ST5 SS Frenzy creates a guy that can surf almost any opening. ST5 Leap is going to get 2d on almost any caged ST3 carrier.

ST5 DT is hard to dislodge, yes, but so is ST3 with fend as well, and also this player is protected by his strength, I'd hate to be putting him on the ground for fouls.

I would stick with frenzy or leap as your choices.

My choice would be leap. As he is your main guard player and adding the the 5 strength to his toughness. It would be optimal to have a player that can not only leap in a cage to assist but survive in that cage after with the use of side step.

Either choice really changes his whole dynamic on the team. If you give him frenzy he goes from support player to actual blitzer. Leap will also change the whole dynamic but it will give the whole team more possibilities as opposed to frenzy just adding to his own.

DT would be mighty, go with that or MA, IMO. Frenzy and other things would be fun, but I think dt wins the most games. MA is also great.

Truthfully you have plenty of speed elsewhere to where the MA 8 while nice is likely unnecessary.

Leap could give the bash teams fits and will force them to slow progression down the field to ensure proper caging. At that point a few no knockdown blocks and you are in the money to leap in knock the ball out and have one of those nasty catchers or 6 ag blitzed swoop in and take the ball.

Leap on a str 5 tackler is worse than having to defend against a wizard. Wiz 83% LB one shot wonder as opposed to your 89% (with rr) leap in for likely 2db hit.

+MA. Nice player

MA+

It's the skill you will use the most. 8-5-4-8 is a Vampire Lord on coke. Do eet.

I'd say frenzy or leap. MA is nice too.

To talk out of both sides of my mouth... leap is more dynamic and gives your opponent more to think about defending, as well as giving you more options for plays. But you'll use the MA increase more often and it will never fail you.

All good choices, really tough call. Go with your gut.

A thought I keep having is that this team is drowning in stats. On the one hand, that is a huge advantage and game-breaking. On the other hand the fact is I am sitting at over 2500tv and I don't have a single instance of Sure Hands/DT/Frenzy/Leap because I keep getting stats.
Posted by the_Sage on 2014-09-22 11:07:28
Hadn't even looked at the team. With 2 MA10s and an MA9 already, you definitely don't need your blitzer with MA8.

Ultimately I went for what is both least likely to get him killed early AND more likely to be good in the extended future when the long range catchers are dead, +MA. Also I am stat whore.

Clearly you can't imagine how awesome he would be with DT... Because if you could, he would have DT! ;)
