Friendly builder matches are going on until Monday. Should(?) be fine.
But be advised - "friendly" is subject to the whims of Nuffls!
And none of those are against a team w/ much (or any!) Block. o.O |

Amusing quote from one of today's R&P pre-season friendly games:
<Smeat> hey, Ag 4 can't fail forever
<Smeat> esp when it's Ag 5

Silvania Sycamores 3 Summit Mice 2
https://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=match&id=3628152
A cracking game, with good moments from both teams. Coach Village_Idiot seemed not to be taking full advantage of his players at the outset, so coach Hayati spent much of the game discussing the many virtues of AG4/5 MA9 Gutter Runners with Two Heads! By the end of the game said Runners were in full swing and we expect great things from them this Rush & Pass season!
In the first half Silvania opted to receive. After 3 routine (for these teams) touchdowns back and forth for a 2-1 scoreline, a small positional error led to the Mice Thrower Fuscipes being sacked at the close of the half.
In the second half the Mice came back with another touchdown to tie the game 2-2. Then, Sycamores SPP hog Nestariel somehow dropped an accurate pass in the endzone, and scattered the football out of play to top things off! The football eventually ended up in the hands of one of the Runners, who looked quite likely to put his team 3-2 up; however, he fell on a GFI and managed to knocked himself out as well! In this he truly outdid Nestariel for a display of ineptitude! Cue star Thrower Morwen to step up and secure another touchdown for the Sycamores with her amazing Strong Arm.
At the death, the Mice had a chance to make it 3-3 but just failed to open up the position for the score. The final score, 3-2 Sycamores!
Coach Hayati mused, "We sure are lucky to have Morwen on the team, with her Strong Arm. She makes long passes on a 2+ with a Pass re-roll and long bombs on a 3+! This means that we can hold her back deep and sprint for the endzone, opening up yet another avenue of scoring potential for what is already a very talented team." |

Half Time Update: Silvania Sycamores 3 Padfinger 2
A cracking half of play; after a very long tea break the second half will commence at 05:30pm PST Tuesday!
Silvania received the opening kick-off and got right to work with a turn two touchdown, once again relying on Morwen's Strong Arm. Padfinger came right back with an impressive score- as coach Hayati remarked, "It's very hard to predict which way the Slann will go with their drives, making defense a nightmare!" Silvania scored once more in two turns but had to rely this time on a failed interception, making life slightly less comfortable. Following this, an impressive Wardancer Leaping Blitz on Padfinger left the football loose and surrounded by three Wood Elves- yet somehow Padfinger made the resulting recovery and touchdown look very easy indeed! 2-2!
In the pre-season friendlies between these teams, coach Hayati repeatedly forgot about Diving Tackle. This time, it was coach Smeat's turn to forget- about OTT! After Morwen launched the ball long from the deep field to star Nestariel, she somehow managed to drop it- right into the arms of a nearby colleague! Thus she was evenutally able to receive a hand-off and storm up-field for the OTT! "Woo," noted coach Hayati, "My first ever OTT!"
Padfinger then had a chance to make it 3-3 at half time, but could not get the right pushes they needed to advance their star runner.
The half time score 3-2, and we look forward to an exciting conclusion to this one folks! |

No VACation coaching crew is pressing their gutters hard for tomorrow's match. After last game and runners' abysmal failure to accomplish anything, fans were left wondering whether they actually are gutter runners or just some shady brawling horned rats from below the stadium...
Tomorrow a whole new meaning of running in the gutter is revealed!
Or buried with dissapointment |

Full Time Update: Silvania Sycamores 4 Padfinger 4
https://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=match&id=3632223
In the second half Padfinger took much longer (four turns) to score the opener after some direction changes mid-way. The Sycamores then scored their routine two-turn touchdown, immediately followed by a two-turn retort from Padfinger!
This left the Sycamores with two turns left, with 10 players, and the chance to win the game 5-4. A deep kick stretched the play, but with Morwen on the team the situation looked promising. That is, until a routine block to open an avenue for Morwen failed after a re-roll, ending the drive and the game at 4-4!
Said coach Hayati, "One thing I learned here- when it comes down to the wire, let your stars play! In this instance I risked a block just to open up an extra square for Morwen. Had I just gone with her and trusted in her throwing ability along with Nestariel to finish it off, we may well have won the game. That is a lesson we will not soon forget!"
"Having said that, a draw seemed like the fair outcome, especially given the luck the Sycamores enjoyed during the first half OTT attempt. However, it would have been nicer had the game ended on a diving interception or similar, instead of on a routine block."
"Finally, we see yet again the power of the Kick skill at work!"
With this result both teams have proved their mettle and look to be strong contenders in the division!
Quote of the match came from coach Smeat, "Your players are like scoring machines whereas my team has to work for touchdowns!"
Coach Smeat's game comments:
(Replay not fully loading - stopping half-way, frame 2048)
The tie came down to 4 factors - 1) the WElf's AV 7 held up, and so they were able to field 11 until late in the 2nd half, 2) the Padfinger coaching staff enjoying too much holiday spirit and completely neglecting to defend against the Turn 8 WElf MA 11 OTS attempt, which succeeded, 3) that until Turn 15 the Frogs had no effective defensive setup against the speed of the WElfs (repeatedly scattering 4 men deep) and, finally, 4) quad Both-Down on Turn 16 for the WElfs, before they could pass into a group of defenders and see how it all turned out.
Generally speaking the Sycamores were a two-turn TD machine, Pass-Catch-Dodge-Score tyvm, while Padfinger struggled with positioning as either failed rolls or plain bad planning made their scores seem more luck-based.
It should be noted - and it's a shame this can't be rewatched - that on the T8 OTS attempt (which was Coach Hayati's first successful OTS!), the Catch snaked, but the ball bounced directly into the hands of the only unmoved WElf lineman nearby - who then simply handed off to complete the play. Nuffle clearly wanted this play to happen.
One for the Welfs, just as the T16 quad-both-down was one for the Frogs. |

Dreadsea Cavaliers vs. No VACation
Fantastic match played entirely in the rain that saw the Cavaliers coming back from a 2 TD deficit to almost tying in the dying moments of the match.
We had the fans (pitch invasion, 2 cheering fan results), but No VACation had the speedy gutter runners, including Zeus who scored 3 TDs and was a real pain to deal with. Watch out for that one!
I'm really enjoying the format of this league - good job commish(es?). Can't wait for my next match now |

Dreadsea Cavaliers vs. Nufflespeed
Match was played in sweltering heat that saw the Cavalier fans quite involved in the match:
kick off results in favor of the Cavaliers:
1 x Perfect Defense
1 x Cheering Fans
2 x Brilliant Coaching
1 x Throw a Rock
who needs re-rolls with fans like these
The Cavaliers played a game of hot-potato, dumping off the ball several times and forcing Nufflespeeds wardancers to leap around like gymnasts.
very fun match & gracious opponent despite some poor luck.
cheers! |
