Direct link to the welcome message in the form of a notes page is here. This has replaced the original format of a PM, as it makes far more sense to message a link to it then copy masses of BBCode and send it that way 
It is also linked to in this thread, which welcomes new coaches to the site and gets them to introduce themselves/ask questions.

I think that's a great idea. I've also been looking for a good reference to introduce new people to the game... Something VERY concise which gives an overview of some of the basics:
- Player attributes and what they do
- Blocking / assists
- Racial differences/strategies (e.g., fast/agile score TDs vs. strong/slow Bashers vs. hybrids)
Very high-level without much details just to peak someone's interest before getting them to learn more. For example a ~5 min youtube video or maybe a 1-2 page document max... I've got some friends that I'm sure would love the game if they were to put in the time to learn it... But I don't live near them anymore so not easy to sit-down and teach them, etc.
All I really want is to tweak their interest  |

I remember discussing this perhaps 2 years ago as a way to encourage new managers to stick around. Another site I previously played a Footie management game on had a welcome pm with a few useful links. I think at the time Christer said he was progressing with improvements for new players, but I think the welcome pm got forgotten about. If that one welcome pm can go to the player's email address even better, and a reminder a couple of days later.
There shouldn't be too much info. Maybe direction of where to create a team and the page explaining the divisions, the 145 signup page and something like what footballolb suggests with a few hints. |
