Hey, all.
I've decided to get back into the NCBB with High Elves, who will be playing in the rookie conference for the first series. They're not an all-lino outfit, but close: 1 Blitzer, 10 Linemen, 3 Re-Rolls, at 950k so far. Don't ask why so many linos, it's a long story: I do plan to hire position players, as I can afford them.
Anyhow, I got 50k left after buying the bare necessities. Apothecary, or Re-Roll? |

My extensive experience running Helfs in SWL tells me Apo without any doubt. 3 RR's can be plenty if Murphy doesn't come calling, but not spending that 50k now could cost you a lot more than that in the opening game or two. |

That many lineman?... why are folks saying Apothecary?! Get the reroll so you're flush with them for the entirety of the team's existence and you can spend your first money on an apothecary before you load up on position players.
No offense to anyone but Poods... but folks that agree with Poods are *wrong*. I thought we had all agreed that was established fact. |

your an elf. You may have armor 8 for this team, but take the apothecary. You're going to need it. |

Incorrect. Anyone who agrees with me is an erudite and sophisticated gentleman or madame. You Sir, are a pillock.
In any event, I was merely answering in terms of JR's scenario. It's not how I would start an HE team. Besides, there was an Apo answer some time before mine.
Single me out at your peril! |

Well... you get points for resuscitating that insult, at least. Well done, good man.
You're still wrong about the apothecary |

In the end, the plan of course is to build stats on your lineELVES before building up your roster with positionals that will suck up all the SPP, correct?
If that is the case, I would go with the RR first. Seriously, the only player you are really protecting with the apoth is the solo blitzer/Dragon Warrior. If a lineELF dies in the first game or so, you are not really out anything (thank you journeymen). |

Well, this is my NCBB team. I have a rep to uphold in NCBB, but I don't care if I win the rookie conference in our inaugural season: the league is littered with also-ran teams that shot out the gate. So I'm playing a longer game with this team, looking to compete for the title in its third and fourth seasons.
NCBB players play about 40 games and, if they survive, retire from the roster to join the NBFL draft. I plan on rejoining the NBFL with my Orcs before these elf players graduate, and when that happens, I want to flood the Lineman board with quality Line players. Even if I don't draft one of them, this creates a glut in the Line category, meaning other great Line-Orcs will fall to me. I've done this before with Chaos Renegades (the Rutgers Hauers), and that was fun. |

If you want to protect your line-elves, get an apothecary.
If you're willing to get by with journeymen for many a game while you scrape up the cash, get the fourth re-roll. Seeing as you don't have sure hands, catch, or (for when you've run out of other options) pass, you're more likely to need it. |

Well I'm going to ask anyway.
Get a second blitzer instead of a linemen, win first game and roll winnings 2+ to get apothecary for second game.
Otherwise to the stated question you have presented us with, get the apo. |

@tmoila, read two replies above your own: this team is meant to feed the NBFL draft, and specifically to feed the Line selection. I do intend to compete in the NCBB, but season 1 is kind of a throw-away.
I plan on returning to the NBFL soon with my Orcs, team linked in reply above. Without digging too deep into it:
* I plan to draft late, and not usually pick up a good BOB or Blitzer if I need one.
* I don't take a lot of damage to my position players, and right now, my BOBs, Blitzers, and Throwers are all set.
* My Line squad does take a lot of damage, relatively speaking.
* High Elf Linos build into good draft picks, if you develop them right.
So I'm thinking I want two specialist Linemen, probably guys who roll stats, but I might build one lino as a sweeper. Otherwise, I want to skill them all with Block, Side Step, and Fend, with Guard on doubles. I'll hire a Catcher ASAP (big argument for Apoth over RR is that I get the Catcher much faster), and then probably a second one before I get my second Blitzer. That's 280-330k (depending on my choice), about as far forward as I plan to look. |
