After having played a few leagues now,i find that the most fun is not the heavy scoring or heavy casualties that does it for me but just controlling the pitch.
so for a next league i'm looking for a good controlling team.(dont want to play dwarves)
What do you guys say gives you the most control over the pitch?
i myself was thinking between Chaos,Nurgle,Orcs,Undead and Khemri... |

Nurgle is all about control and making the opponent roll buckets of dices until they get that 1.
go for it |

Khemri, but your positioning must be perfect.
Zons, DE, Necro also control the pitch well. |

Controlling the pitch is such a vital part of winning that basically all tier 1 teams are good at it. Elves for example are superb at it, they just do it more by dodging away and less by hitting stuff. |

Pitch control is split into various types;
Physical control, strength based - I am there, therefore you are not
Zonal, elf style, denial of space - controlling of tacklezones
Spacial- I can move the ball out of range of your threat(s).
Which is you?
Some teams do more than one, some specialise in only 1 |

Skaven for example can "control" the pitch in that way, that their fast GR equipped with some +AG, Two Heads, Diving Tackle etc make you moving your ball carrier forward a very anxious thing. Of course this only applies until the AV 7 starts hurting Skaven. |

I can agree that agility teams (like amazones, skaven or elves)can have a good advantage over other teams becaus they are hard to catch.
But after a few games other teams will get the right skills to wreck the somewhat more fragile agile teams.
I used chaos pact, norse and necro in past leagues and i must admit that chaos pact was the most fun mainly becaus i had allot of control over the field. So i think bashy is more my style. With norse i couldn’t take allot of hits myself so at the end of the game i didn’t have enough players left.
Haven’t allot of chaos dwarves... do they have a good control?
But i like the versatility of skills that mutations give... (again, based on my pact experience) like claws,tentacles,2heads,... |

gonna go for a mighty blow undead team (MB as first skill on the wights)
or a roadbloc nurgle team giving tent, standfirm and lots of guard (1pest carrier and 1 killer)
or a mutation chaos team and go for funky mutations
or go nuts and take ogres |

I think this is an under-discussed topic when it comes to strategy in Blood Bowl. Are there any good resources for post-match analyses of defensive positioning (beyond setups) in a game? Like analyses of classic chess games. |

Joemanji does a lot of this in his videos: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVLrQsfhTKVZ0M32T6QcZKQ |

Sounds like you'd find Khemri fun. Well TV-controlled flings, particularly in a league with house rules that benefit them such as HUBBA, are also great for playing primarily for pitch control. Don't forget that well placed fouls are an important part of the strategy! |

Chaos: No. not really their game. their 'anyone can blitz at str4' style can give you projected force anywhere if you build around a CW solid LOS base and have versatile beastmen. My own Chaos team have always more or less followed that concept and it has been successful. But avoiding the more cookie cutter killer chaos is tough, and really you have better options.
Nurgle: Yes and No. No if you build Nurgle the way 98% of coaches do, see Chaos and kill stuff. But yes if you build the 'Stymie' Style of Nurgle, centering on tentacles, DP?FA, a Spawn and add in some SF, tackle, DT. Elves will hate you, and thats always awesome.
Orcs: Yes. Fine. Dull though. Skill your BOB's early.
Undead: Nope. Not for positional play really.
Khemri: Yes but caution. Khemri will absolutely teach you positional play, and they need to excel at it to really work well. But the learning curve may be steep. they are truly terrible if you cant run them right.
You should play Dwarves. You're wrong about them. But as you wont, of the options you've given, i'd take Khemri if i felt the league wasnt going to be elf dominated and I was one of the stronger coaches.
But I'd probably take Orcs to learn how to control the pitch, and maybe look to transition to Khemri next time if i didnt feel my positional play was quite 'there' yet. |
