A long time ago, I took Gobbos in a long-running TT league. I started with (or at least built up to) all the Secret Weapons.
The performance of the team was less than I was expecting, notably, they struggled to get 11 menz to the 2nd half (quite often the numbers were well below that).
So I switched to the following system: no Secret Weapons; 14 menz; induce (where possible) 2 Secret Weapons of the same type to match the opposition (e.g. if facing Wood Elves, I might induce a Merc Chainsaw and Nobbla; if facing Orcs I might take a Merc Ball & Chain and Fungus).
This system worked well, and there was a noticeable improvement in results. Though of course I found it quite boring without the Gobbo Secret Weapon stuff! So towards the end of the league, I reverted to a roster with the Secret Weapons. Team performance fell back to where it had been at the beginning.
So I think it is the longstanding Secret Weapon sub-system that hobbles the Gobbos more than anything else. If you love using rostered Secret Weapons, you have to accept that team performance will likely be sub-optimal as a result (though there is of course some variation by environment).
Hope that helps. |
