I see a lot of Dakka whining that he doesn't want to take basic consideration for the fact that this is a game and people have lives.

I really don't see what an automatic timeout adds to the game. I have almost never had a problem with anyone in this game of abusing the time out rules, and if I do, it is basically always solved with a "hey I'll time you out if you go over again."

And I'm not saying this for my own benefit, I can count on one hand the number of times I've gone over the time limit on one of my turns, so it wouldn't affect me at all to have an automatic timer.

Funny enough the one time that people consistently take too much time on their turns is when they are figuring out setup for OTT attempts, which is an untimed part of the game.

Feel free to try Cyanide and tell us if it is better.

I'm not going to buy a game to play BB Second Season and the Cyanide AI sucks.
The Cyanide game is worse, but the automatic time control is better than manual time-out.
For everything else FUMBBL client is better, so it would not be logical to play there.

I have a life too and people wasting too much time interfere with my own life as well.
Sometimes I had to delay real life things I had to do because people played too slowly, disconnected several times etc. and, even when I have time to waste, I just don't want to spend more time than necessary to play a game. Time is the currency of the life and must be spent well.
I could do something else, or just play 2 games in the time of a single slow game.
I don't interfere with other people's time and I expect the same.

Thinking about the timeout button as a way to win isn't within the spirit of the rules (or the site I believe).

I also think it depends on the situation. It was (not sure if still is) that timing out an afk opponent was against site rules.

I also think in highly competitive matches 4 minutes may not be enough to formulate your best turn. However, I think 4 minutes on average is more than enough.

Something like 3 minute turns with a 5-10 minute extra pool would be much better. Similar to the old old client had.

Socially 'odd' people often would like the ambiguity of social situations made simple. I get it.

People who take advantage of other people often worry about being taken advantage of. I get that too.

Wanting to win your first tournament and watching a noob's lucky dice take that away at 4 minutes and 30 seconds into a turn can be frustrating, yes. I get it.

But choosing NOT to use the time-out button shows patience, and allows for kindness, and understanding, and makes FUMBBL a more inclusive place to enjoy Blood Bowl, even in tournament environments. Parents with small children can play. People with bad connections can play. Learners can learn, and still try and compete. I've almost never typed "Don't worry about the time, man. Take what you need." and not had it really appreciated. I feel like that appreciation is usually passed along.. until people forget, and want to win.

There are several types of people here who will time out. They can't help it. I would submit that if you CAN help it, that you do refrain. It makes FUMBBL a more welcoming place. New players are the future. Nice players are the foundation.

Now that you mention it, I don't think it is against the rules.

As far as I know, timing out an AFK opponent is against the site rules.

SIGH, already 3 pages for a subject that has been covered infini. The site rules are posted on this. You can either take the heat, or you can get out of the kitchen.

Do I like the TO function? NO, I don't & I can't remember the last time I've used it. That being said, it is a valid function & is available w/ said posted site rules on how to use it.

However, IMO if a coach feels it's just not acceptable to take an extra 15-20 mins or so to finish a game, due to a coach having to do some extra thinking on a turn or two, then, again, IMO, you are losing sight of what this game was meant to be...a pub table game played in good spirits & for fun. Just my opinion folks.

Dakka, Dakka, Dakka! Very Happy

To me this is an ambiguous thing. Actually all the arguments mentioned for both sides are valid to me.

The decisive one to me is the 'active decision'. You need to press the timeout button. As a person. So opponent and community may be mad at YOU. Which is not a nice situation.

I like the solution of BB3 with fixed turn times plus a bank. You can discuss if it is the right length, but that is details.

For all those real life issues (that hopefully do not come up too often) there is still the alternative to close the client.

Maybe - no idea about the technical feasability - a settings in the rulesets would enable leagues to keep the current situation (or disable timeouts completely). I guess for C Division with one ruleset it would be a bit more tricky. I would say Blackbox and tournament games should use the auto-option, while GF May stay as is.
