I searched for this for about 30 minutes to no avail. So I turn the question over to the collective experience of the fumbbl community.

when in a private league, is it possible to allow players to play games outside of the tournament structure. Namely, if I set up an open round robin tournament, would participants be allowed to play games against other teams not in that tournament.

No.

Once your team is "in a tournament" no other matches will upload.
