The Picks: Ulthuan Invitational 3
Street Fighter Legend vs NFL greatest
Pmg's Dark Elves have a strong winning record and a nearly full roster of developed blodgers and +stats.
spinball's Chaos Dwarfs have Hthark cash, but are otherwise low on players.
Looking at the CD numbers, we can reliably expect the two +AG hobgoblins to get the ball
to the +ST +AG Centaur, who is overwhelmingly the main scorer of the team. He's also niggled,
which is not good for any team with a niggled anchor player in a four-round tourney.
The CD's also have more Dirty Players than the DE, but they are already well-developed players
so a fouling war would benefit the Dark Elves after all the DPs have been sent off.

Havena Dodgers vs Da Dead 'Ard3
ploplo25's Wood Elves have a full roster with a few sprinkled injuries.
Kk773's Orcs are a bit undermanned and outclassed for this match with 12 players on the roster
and down almost 80 TS with only three Blitzers. At least these Wood Elves don't have a one-turner yet.

Blood Red Dragons vs Woodburns E.L.F
This game between Borgen's Darks and Falcone's Woods is already in progress as I write,
so this pick is slightly tainted. Woodburns is not to be underestimated, especially with a one-turner.

Super Naggswan vs Divine Assassins
ibar's Dark Elves are loaded with blodge sidestep. Fanatic's Skaven have all their positionals well developed,
featuring three(!) Dauntless GRs (one Horns) and a Storm Vermin casualty machine.
Both teams have very good win records. This match should be a good one.

Transformers! vs Erhnamgeddon
WarriorTsuke's Wood Elves are strong and blodgy with a Sprint/SureFeet one-turner.
Rijssiej's Orcs are also pretty strong and have already stocked up on Morg, Nobbla, and a Wizard.
The Orc win record is not as good as the Woods but the Elves have built their career on playing other dashy teams,
so it is unclear how they will fare against Orcs. They still have cash to bring in one WoodElf star,
so there might be an extra Wardancer on the field. This is a tough match to call,
but with handicaps going to the Orcs and the existing Star power they have committed,
they should squeeze this one out if the Chainsaw makes some good early hits.

Yo rc II vs Deep Down And Dirty
Yo's Orcs and freak_in_a_frock's Darks are fairly evenly matched at the moment,
but the Orcs have Star cash and the Dark Elves do not. The Elves are heavy on +AG but the Orcs have some too.
This pick is close enough that it depends on whether the Orcs buy Morg or not. Assuming they do...

Texan's Orcs move to round 2 but are a bit low on players and cash to stand up to
either of their possible round 2 opponents in their current state...
Them Obvious Megastars vs Zug-Khazad Smeltering Inc
Dalibor's Darks have a strong win record and a good amount of +stats.
ankkh's Dwarfs have an obscene amount of +ST (five players with ST 4) and more Guard of course,
so the Dark Elves will be greatly outstrengthed and the plentiful Dwarf Tackle makes it worse.
These Dark Elves played Dwarfs once and won 5-0, but the Dwarfs played Dark Elves once and won 4-2.
This should be one of the tightest matches in the tournament with the potential for terrible destruction!

Update!
Blood Red Dragons wins 2-1 to move on to round 2 (much to Rijssiej's chagrin) 
It is reported that the game was very close to 2-2 OT up until turn 7 of the 2nd half.
After a rocky first half, Street Fighter Legend took advantage of two Blitz kickoffs to seal the game 2-1.
They lost two good players in the process and a low 40k(+15?) winnings foretell a tough second round. |

Update!
Super Naggswan moves on to round 2 in a surprise 3-2 upset over Divine Assassins.
Meanwhile, Erhnamgeddon wins 4-3 over Transformers! in a storm of Wood Elf casualties.
Both of these matches make way for some round 2 picks...
We have bigger Dark Elves vs smaller Dark Elves and bigger Orcs vs smaller Orcs.
Blood Red Dragons vs Super Naggswan
BRD are in quite good shape for this match.
Both teams have three Guards but BRD also has two +ST and more players
so they have strength advantage. They also have more +AG and are up by almost 60 TS.
Super Naggswan has a very good win record, but this particular team matchup looks pretty bleak.

Erhnamgeddon vs Yo rc II
This is a similar matchup to the last pick but in Orcish form.
Yo rc II has the advantages here in win record, number of players, and a slightly better TS.
They will be giving up handicaps but their huge Treasury advantage
effectively means they can cancel any Star that Erhnamgeddon brings.
They might even drop the niggled lineman and bring a second Star without regret.

I have to disagree with Plorg in the matchup between Ernhamgeddon and Yo rc II. Rijssiej has a lot more damage enhancing skills (DP & MB) than Yo, and Yo will give up 1 or 2 handicaps. If he spends most of his treasury (Morg & Ripper/Varag + Wizard) Yo has a good chance. Otherwise I think Rijssiej will bash away for the win. |

Street Fighter Legend vs Havena Dodgers
Freshly trimmed Darks against strong niggled Woods.
The Woods have 1 MNG and 5 niggled players including the Tree.
They are currently looking at giving up 3 handicaps and a Virus would take them out.
The Dodgers have a pretty good win record... except against Dark Elves...
which could be the most telling statistic in the bunch.

Update!
Primetime Orcs vs Zug-Khazad Smeltering Inc
Texan's Orcs and ankkh's Dwarfs.
Expect long running drives featuring Captain Kirk and Hili Fleetfoot.
Texan has hired a Bomber which should be interesting.
The Dwarfs have almost enough +ST and Guard to outstrength the Orcs,
but they have still have room to hire Grim or a Deathroller to spice things up.
The Dwarf's Mighty Blow advantage may be the key in this AV 9 battle.

Update!
Yo rc II vs Zug-Khazad Smeltering Inc
Once again the Treasuries are full so we should see an Orcish Wizard and Stars on both sides.
Orcs have a good BoB MNG, which is enough to give the Dwarfs the ST/Guard advantage.
This might like look like a repeat of their last game but the Dwarfs should make it to the Final.
