Well I took him to OT and then he received... sadly it was not to be and I lost 3 players for my troubles. My Jedi powers deserted me

Unlucky to the both of you.
Still - those CD's got deeper than you expected, right? We're doing pretty well on the underdog front.
Hopefully one of our remainder will push through to the last 16 or better. |

Hell yeah I only entered my 202/204 Chaos Dwarfs as a laugh.. round 4 is a LOT further than I thought  |

Feeble Cherryboys [FCUK] 2-2 Skruffneks
After beating 2 very good Orc teams (inculding Skeletor's highly tipped team) I was drawn against yet another Orc team in the shape of the Skruffneks.
I'd faced DukeTyrion on several occasions before and only beaten him in stunty, so knew I was in for a tough game. He'd also decided to take my team seriously and bought both a wiz and a bomber. But Duke is also a great guy and lots of fun to play against so I knew this was going to be exactly the type of game I love, hard fought and in good spirit.
I decided to go all out to win and hired the count and sacked my niggled MA8 blodge ghoul to get a 2nd handicap. The game started with me winning kick off and getting Bad press and Duh Where am I? (put on Bruktafn the AG4 Blitzer).
I received and Duke's fans got the ref (despite his FF being 10 and mine 13) which was most upsetting as I love fouling Orcs. My early turns were a bit weak, lots of pushes preventing me getting a good foul, but I managed to get the count in an ok position with some support. Bruktafn started as he meant to go on and used his strip ball ability to pop the ball loose and grab it. The ball changed hands a few times but I managed to pick it up with the count and form a loose cage (helped by the bomber blowing himself up again).
Duke's wiz achieved little only stunning 1 ghoul and it looked like i was in for a comfortable turn 8 TD, but Bruktafn had other ideas and gave me a scare, luckily the count managed to grab the loose ball and score. Even better, the ref spotted bomber and sent him off.
My anti TTM defence was poor (kicker was on the sidelines and the orcs got a touchback due to bad kick), but the troll fumbbled the throw and I was up 1-0.
Duke's fan got the ref again in the 2nd half (but that's what you get for having dead people supporting you, too slow to catch anyone). I really wanted to foul out some of the Orc positionals to discourage the Orcs from fouling back, but quad skulls on my mummy prevented this.
I got far too focused on bashing the Orcs after this and was overly worried about getting my players fouled out after the mummy was SI'd on a foul, but he regen'd. Although I did BH the SF Black Orc the Orc cage was left unmolested and my turn 5/6 were shocking, had I pressused the cage I could've tried to force the Orcs to score early or at least use a re-roll.
After my DP was sent off for a KO, my tactics for the half failed utterly and I really wasted an opportunity to try and stop the Orcs scoring or force an earlier TD for a win in normal time.
I started a lot more aggresively in OT with the Orcs receiving, with a failed pass leaving the ball loose. My sidestep ghoul managed to get a tacklezone on the ball, but Bruktafn came to the rescue again, he wasn't able to get far enough away and the count knocked him down. After some scrambling the count got the ball and was in scoring position, but Bruktafn hit him again and popped the ball loose, only for the count to grab it in 3 tackle zones! after that, it was a simple blitz and dodge for a TD.
The Orcs had 4 turns left to try and win the game, all respect to Duke, when a pass to his blitzers looked unlikely he threw the goblin as a longbomb to score and give himself 2 turns to try and win, but also gave me 3.
A QS and touchback, helped my team out, but a slight misclick and blocking myself off meant that my ghouls weren't able to get as far forward as they should have.
The Orcs rushed back to try and stop me, Bruktafn again coming to the rescue by dodging through multiple tackle zones to pop the ball loose, and I had foolishly put my ghoul next to an Orc lino where he could be blocked and taken down so he now needed a GFI to get in the endzone.
Some blocks freed the count so now I was a 2+ GFI, 2+ pick up, then an AG4 short pass to win, with a re-roll. But snaked the 1st GFI to end the game 2-2. The Orcs won the coin toss and went through.
I can't really complain about the result, I had a lot of luck in the 1st half and played really badly and negatively in the 2nd. Duke going for the longshot at winning in OT was very cool and so there is justice in him winning the coin toss.
It was a great and fun game and I got far further than I expected too with a very average undead team.
Grats on the win Duke, I'm happy to be going out to a great guy and good coach and will be cheering you on in your subsequent rounds. I hope you have more luck building rotters for the next major as there are far too many Orcs in the FC. |
