1st game Chaos beasts plus Mino.
Had a beastman killed and another seriously injured (niggled!)
So retire yes?
BUT: the Mino got a skill and a double to boot! (am thinking tentacles or foul appearance; Nurgle themed)
So what to do?
Retire the niggler, buy one beastman (or apo?) and struggle on?
Or just forget about the whole team?
What would you do and why?

don't retire the team. You can retire the niggler if you want - i often do that. Buy another beastman and play an easy match; take tentacles on the mino (way better than foul appearance on a STR 5 guy), or claw/RSC if you want. playing with 10 players is of ocurse possible - i just won 4-0 a match with my dark elfs, 10 players against a total of 12 (or 13, can't remember) |

I'd say buy an apoth to mitigate further losses, retire the niggling, and play hurting for a few games. As long as your FF doesn't drop too much more, they'll be viable again sooner or later...with 9 players you can get some nice recovery matches, and low TR will mean bigger winnings if you look for other high FF opponents. |

A double on a big-guy is a rare gift, I'd definitely keep the team around. If you have enough to buy another beastman, then go ahead and retire the niggler, get the new beastman, and get your apo next game. With 8 av all around, the chances of another serious injury are fairly low, so you should be good to wait.
As to what to get for the mino, there's other discussion boards for that topic... |

Dont retire.
Why? Unless you get annihilated you shouldnt retire teams after only 1 game. |

Definatly dont retire.
Only down 2 players, and if you cant afford immediate replacements remeber freebooters are half price. Freebooters will get you through a game and keep your TR down. Doubles on a Mino on first game = golden opprotunity. |

Ok. The majority seems to think like I did. Struggle on.
But what is best?
Buy an apo? Freeboot 2 beastmen. Buy one?
Thanks for all the responses btw. |

Get the apothecary!!
Think of it this way - if next game the Minotaur with Happy Fun Doubles get's RIP'ed won't you be kicking yourself that you got a rookie beastman instead? Chances low? I dunno, a Minotaur with Tentacles (or whatever you've given him for the doubles roll) makes quite the fouling target...and with Frenzy but no Block, he may well end up on his arse sooner rather than later! |

Good point. Bought the apothecary.
Went with tentacles btw. Would have loved foul appearance but I guess tentacles is (are?) simply so much better indeed.
One can always hope for another double.
Now off to lose some games. Errm, I mean; earn some money to fill my roster. |

tentacles is very good. You will force your opponent to keep players next to your mino, and with the new wild animal rule you will be able to block with the mino (at the end of your turn, i suggest, so double skulls won't be a real pain) with a 2+ roll.
apoth is good, always. start buying beastmen next time |

Tentacles is not only good as a choice, it is also slightly different from what the majority takes:
52% would take razor sharp claws?
I tried to disbelieve but it didn't work.
I liked tentacles simply because it is so much more a Nurgly mutation. |

Buy Apoth.
Do not retire the niggled. Buy another beastman. Then another.
Never retire after 1 loss. |

With any other team you might reconsider after effectively losing 2 linemen. (not positionals!)
But with Chaos it gets really, really hard. I now will have to earn 100k (20k in the bank) and not lose any more beastmen for 2, maybe 3 matches. Amost certain losses.
I have done this before with another Chaos team but do not look forward to the experience.

So I know it can be done. But 4 losses was hard. Especially for a fragile ego like mine. |

Sure, very scary.
But I like tentacles better! Mighty blow works fine for me and if what I hit does not go down I ensnare it with the tentacles and block the poor creature again next turn. |
