I realize, compaired to a majority of coaches here on fumbbl, I am a newcomer. However, I, like so many who play here, once and still do play the Table Top version of Blood Bowl. I started out playing Undead and on many occasions, had my "living dead behind" handed to me on a silver platter. In fact, I've been served so bad, I should have fielded an Undead team called "Thanksgiving Turkeys."
When I started out, I had no idea what player to buy, had no real sense of how the positions were played or even a real working knowledge of the mechanics. I was a complete Newbie in every sense of the meaning. Lucky for me I had the kindness of strangers when I needed it most. In my second TT league, one of the more experienced Undead coaches helped draw up a new roster for the then coming league. He explained the rules and played a few practice matches to help me gain my footing better in the game. As I was learning from him, I lost my share of games. I was getting fed up with watching my players leave the field, either through fouling or plain ol' lucky die rolls. I even told him his roster sucked and that Undead were a completely unplayable race. I wasn't getting the concept of tackle zones, put TZ's on the ball, put TZ's on any potential dodgers etc. and etc. I even accused him of cheating, which of course completely PO'd him. He was beating me because he was a better player. I also accused him of giving me a roster everyone could win against. I was going through some personal problems at this point in my life and I had a real attitude problem to boot. A complete stranger had decided to help me learn a game and this was my repayment. I felt like a complete a-hole when I came to my senses. Just before the league started I managed to win my first game of Blood Bowl against the second highest coach in the local league.
Whenever I see someone in trouble, I try to help. If a new player is having troubles winning a game, I try to assist that person, especially when asked for help, even in a general blog.
I won't mention usernames, but you know who you are. If you ask another person for help and you get it, a proper "Thank You" is in order. That's preferable to "your team idea sucks." Especially when the team is retired after a single game, simply because it lost and for no other reason.
Growing up, I used to watch alot of Football with my Dad. This was when the Dallas Cowboys were on top.
I remember my Dad telling me; "a team is only as good as the coach."
Think about that.....
