LC Disappointment
I haven't been able to play much recently, so I've just been checking the homepage every few days to see when the LC qualifiers opened. :-/ Alas.

Maybe PM one of the tourny admins, maybe you can be swapped in with a random filler?
Posted by SzieberthAdam on 2014-09-04 06:32:17
Well, on the about page I see "Recruiting for the Lustrian Challenge VIII!"
I was waiting for a news post with the details. Now I see the qualifiers are drwan. This means I missed this one. Pfft! You could not say I'm not hanging on the site enough. Maybe I am a stupid person.

Or majors should have a way better marketing.

I agree that it was weird they didn't advertise it outside of blogs. It's a major.

Missed it too
Posted by the_Sage on 2014-09-04 08:32:20
Sucks. I've missed several majors as well. However, it's always on Purplechest's blog, the draw is always on a Wednesday evening, and signups usually open at least a week in advance. So the times when I missed it, I know it was my bad. Could be this time is different.

The same for me, never a warning, i see it just today... Really tired and frustated on how this site is going... Gl to everybody, i' m going elsewhere... Bye...

Agree that it is a shame that there wasn't a news item about it but Azure did blog about it twice. Painstate made a forum post about it, granted with only 1 day until the draw. Also PC did do a shout out in IRC for any final entries. If IRC wasn't so dead nowadays maybe more people would have seen it. Who knows.

Anyway my point is that even though it wasn't as well announced as it normally is there were still several ways to find out when the draw was for those that looked. And with 121 teams in quite a few people did find the information.
Posted by PurpleChest on 2014-09-04 11:43:27
Azure was advertising it on blog, and clearing out and PMing the undersized, wrong division and otherwise wrongheaded entried. It did get a forum post, though a little late, and there was a homepage advert. It's not like it was a secret.

Sadly i was on holiday with the family at the critical time and unable to news post or give it the push i normally do. But certainly we, as a team, can try harder.

But leaving the site because we didnt advertise the Major to the normal extent? Seems a little extreme. If you think we tourney admins arnt doing our job, tell us, or volunteer to help us.

A couple of suggestions to help ;)

Imho:

1. News post + blog post from 1 week in advance and refreshed if it gets out the top5 + Forum (1 week in advance) + add in coaches home page (1 week in advance) = basic promotional package for Majors and XFL/BOX minors /Ranked minors.
Hats off to admin running SMACK, BRAWL and RRR with their weekly posts all year long!!

2. Open a forum for people to pour in ideas on how to improve the OFFICIAL TOURNAMENT SCENE. If any ideas are good, set up a team (new recruits if needed) and analyse their viability. Implement any ideas viable.

3. Open admin of tournaments to new recruits if the workload increases due to the implementation of new ideas discussed in the forum. New recruits DO NOT need to be full time admin, they could be temporary specialist: BB Code specialists, graphic design specialists...

Hope it helps

I think 121 is one of the lowest application number ever, i' d like to heard some exscuse here, not other things, when one of us wrong something get a ban near to immediately, and when you wrong i have to accept... Sorry, this isn' t the way i expected to be treated... I don't live in this site, i don' t read all the forum, all the post, i want only play tournament, if you don' t help i can stay without fumbbl... I check all august (as the tournament had to start in august) and now it' s lost just because nobody warns... So bye...

@Favalessa

I understand your frustration as it happened to me not long ago and I AM a person that follows the tournament scene closer than 99,99% of the coaches in this site ;)

However, let's take this as a warning for all of us that we care about tournaments.
Let's improve it together as a community: admin and coches all together.

Let's get involved and not just complain. And please admin, accept critics and be receptive to new ideas.

@Fava

Put your toys back in the pram, PC has already said he was away on holiday so couldn't push it himself and as I have said there were blog posts and a forum post about it.

Just because you didn't see it doesn't mean that the tourney admin staff haven't done their job properly.

What do you want? Do you want a personal PM every time a tourney starts? Sorry it doesn't work that way. If you want to play tournaments than take ownership of it and make sure you don't miss the registration period. Blaming others because it wasn't spoon fed to you is beyond childish.

As far as I can tell the only thing really missing was the news post. Unfortunately that is the big one. People have come to expect it and it remains visible on the site for days if not weeks.

Blogs can be gone from the top 5 within hours, forum posts within minutes. A news post is pure gold.

As for personal messages, A tournament notification group is not such a bad idea.

"News posts remains visible on the site for weeks". "A news post is pure gold". Visible to all: new,veteran or coaches returning to the site. And you don't need to click, just read. And it is a FUMBBL news post.

"A tournament notification group is not such a bad idea" . Many Leagues in FUMBBL uses this channel and it is a good tool. Coaches can opt out by TRASHING the PM. You need to apply to receive those PM's.

what else? Fumbblers, admin and coaches interested, let's have a discussion on how to improve TOURNAMENTS.
Don't get me wrong. Tournemants are very good now, but...let's try to improve them. There is room for it.

Easy, who are you to speak to me in that way ??? Was i rude with you or one of your friend ???
The way is allowed to you to speak to me in that way as you were the king, and me just one of your subjects is enough for me to bye this place. Lot of coaches miss this major, and all say the same thing... Be quite, discover the world beyond your monitor and have respect for other' s ideas, especially when you know something gone wrong, or PC holidays was my fault too...
There is another blog that says the same thing of this, does it happen every major ??? You would made a better appearance if you just told "sorry guys, could happens, we will pay more attention next time", but you want to pass the concept we had to search if not you aren' t really interested... Really poor argument...

@Fave

You seem have missed the point in your bizarre outrage.

PC had already said that they could have done better. I even said that it was a shame there was no news post but the info was there if you looked. But rather than read what people have written properly you made some comment about this not being how you expect to be treated. And rather than just accept that you and others have missed the tournament and wait for the next one you get all dramatic and say you are going to leave FUMBBL because of it!

"when one of us wrong something get a ban near to immediately, and when you wrong i have to accept..." Are you suggesting with this comment that tourney admins should be banned?

Well, it is my fault then. I do not have access to doing the news posts - so I did a blog 2 weeks ahead of time, and when it fell off the "recent blogs" I made a new blog post.

I was not sure who controls the advert on the homepage, but asked Woodstock and took care of it several days ago.

I did not realize that the news post was so important to communicating to everyone - my apologies.

It is not PC's fault - he was on vacation - so I was taking care of it and did not use every tool I could have. So if you want to lynch someone (which it seems folks do) feel free to lynch me.

One thing that really grates on me is people complaining about a free service, or someone who's working for free. And this is both.

Keep up all the good work you selfless volunteers!
