A year on FUMBBL: reflections from a lockdown recruit
(Note: This blog is designed for future reflection, sentimentality and for recording of personal milestones. Those with high expectations of artistic output and/or wish for grander purpose: LEAVE NOW! Don't say I didn't warn you...)

Finally, I have reached the milestone of being on FUMBBL for a year. I have played 249 matches, won some, lost lots and loved every minute, despite nuffle's 'blessings'. I turned up during the second lockdown period, at a point when the 40k tournament setting seemed doomed and I needed a miniature fix from somewhere else. Flicking around on a hobby site, I discovered an article on a place where you could play a fantasy football game online, for free. I loved the community, the ethos and most of all, the stories. All of the best teams out there have a purpose and a story, be it the Angry Newscasters, the Flying Sammiches, She's a Sensation or less famous teams with beautiful histories like The Freezy Trees or The Beasts of Crimson Keep. I wanted to create a legacy myself, whether a famous team, or great player.

Having joined, I created a Chorf team in league (sorry, sorry, blame the page on the site recommending teams)and found a match. They were snotlings. I lost, but fell in love with the game and the team I was using. I joined the 145 for a couple of seasons to improve and it did wonders. I learnt of complex ideas like caging, screens, and the 2-1 grind. One day, I may even use them correctly.

The phases came, went, and left influences. The stunty phase in which I fell in love with ogres for all time. Augmented by the Throne of Blood, I spent far too much time on them than improving my game. Time was spent relearning basics and watching coaches, before coming across the inestimable CrookFangRob's Fanzone. I discovered CIBBL, and am currently playing a high elf team there. The WIL has been joined post-BB2020 and my ogres are yet to win a match there. All in all, a very enjoyable existence.

About 6 months ago, I created a list of seven goals for before I hit the 250 mark. The following:

  • Break the 150 CR mark- Its just a number, but it would be nice. Cue complaints on both sides... I come in peace! - Completed!
  • Have a player in the top 10 for a divisional statistic. Players like Cherrystone Hotpack and Bruce Wayne XVII are to be emulated and conquered! - Completed Lots! My team Glorious Anarchist Human Land have C's highest passing player and the 4th star and 2nd scorer in C. Not bad for some Humans!
  • Larson: A feat for legends, please! Maybe a pass will happen? - Not yet!
  • Win the Throne of Blood! Kill, Maim, Bonehead! - Uncompleted, but I plan for an underworld drive end of Feb to make them competitors.
  • Compete in a Minor: There are tournaments, and I wish to try and compete! - Despite potential from a couple of teams, I can't make the minor coming up so won't be driving the last few builder games.
  • Legend a player: I've said it before, so I'll say it again; though I love teams, players can be fun. - I know that this will be controversial because of redraft and picked stats, but Aubrey Chomsky has been my first legend in 32 games. Long live Anarchy!
  • Finally, to put something back into the community. I've donated through Patreon, though its not linked to my account for financial reasons, but I'd love to be able to help somewhere else. So, if anyone has something they'd like help with or support for, or ideas for ways of doing this, please PM me. This is a wonderful sight, so let's benefit it!

Once again, I'm sorry for the wall of text. If you want to chat, complain, condemn or otherwise communicate then do say and I'll happily talk. In the meantime, here's to many more years of FUMBBL fun. Pob lwc, and see you on the pitch!

You have made Legend? Wow! just wow!

I played around 1400 games here, and I have never made a legend.
