The Amazon Experiment
I knew that Amazons were decent but it took 10 games for me to figure out why. Of course, 4 Blodgers are great to start but I didn't think my style lent itself to coaching Amazons. I certainly didn't think they could stand up to a bashy team.

It turns out, Amazons may well be one of the most subtle bashy teams that I've yet coached. You obviously can't leave them in contact with another team, with AV7, they'd get creamed. But, they seem to be UNBELIEVABLY good at a quick smash and then dodge back.

The main thing I found about Amazons is that they are ANNOYING to play against. There were plenty of times when I got annoyed on behalf of my opposing coach because he just could not get the girl with the ball down.

This makes for a surprisingly successful turn 8 scoring team.

They've got enough blockers to cage and block. And they've got position players to jump out and dump off a pass to a catcher (who then dodges away.)

I'm glad that I'm such a pessimistic player because the "turn ending dodge failure" does happen 1/9 of the time. You obviously can't count on dodging. Frankly, I think it helps more on your opponent's turn to negate stumbles then to actually dodge on your turn.

I'm very surprised to have gone 8-0-2 with my first 10 games playing Amazons.

I don't think they'll ever be one of my favorite teams but it's nice to know that I feel pretty fluent coaching them.
