Asynchronous FUMBBL?
As a father it is tough for me to put 60-90 uninterrupted minutes aside for a FUMBBL match.

I had baby-holding duty today and was trying to get a match in while mini-me slept; unfortunately, he decided to wake up several times throughout the match (thanks for your patience fxiii).

During the match, I was thinking today how nice it would be to play a turn at a time of FUMBBL. I play "Words with friends" on my phone (asynchronous Scrabble) and can always make 5-10 minutes several times a day to submit a move.

There is no reason why this wouldn't work for FUMBBL as well. If you were concerned about people taking forever to pick optimal moves you could enforce a 2 or 4 minute turn limit where you show the player their opponent's move and then start a timer.

This would really open FUMMBL up for Tablet and Phone play as well. I would happily play several turns of FUMBBL on the train on the way to work in the morning.

Is there any way we can make this happen?

(I'm a Java coder and would be happy to help.)

FUMBBL is primarily a real-time client, but play-by-email has existed since long before FUMBBL was even founded.

I'm sure you can find a league somewhere on the internet!

it would be possible I'd imagine, but why not just play PBeM.

They are already playing like that. Send plasmoid a PM if you are interested, he runs that mbbl now.

What the previous 2 have said. MBBL seems to be the place for you when you don't have the time to dedicate to a whole match. Here when you do.

Here's the link to MBBL, in case you were wondering.

Yes, PBEM is an option but I would still love to see this option of play in FUMBBL. It would be amazing to play a few games at once using the FUMBBL client over the course of a week. I don't know of any other client (Cyanide included) that handles all of the LRB rules as well as FUMBBL.

Well, the FUMBBL client can easily handle logging out & back in later on. If you could get enough interest here on FUMBBL you could create a league and do whatever you wanted in terms of deadlines.

Good idea though an issue would be that you would have to log into the game to see if the opponent has done a turn. There wouldn't be a your turn indicator unless you had it open.

You also only get to do part of a turn if there's a casualty when they have an apo, or if you push a player with SS or Stand Firm, or move away from one with Tents, Shadowing or DT, etc.; anything that gives a pop-up to the player not taking their turn.

I don't like that at all, real time is the best. Now play late and lose some sleep time like we , fathers, all do! :)

Yes, good point xnoelx. That might make the idea less feasable.

No, it wouldn't work at all, or something this site would want.

1. The site doesn't want people starting games they don't have time to finish. League isn't our business though.
2. The client generally doesn't work, when only one player is connected or something we'd want implemented (this would allow timing outs or slow down play for normal games).

Generally this style of play isn't in FUMBBLs remit. You could I guess with willing participants run a 'part game' league, however it would never work very well as both need to be connected.

This really is PBeMs remit, this is pretty much their niche.

Well the client is already roughly suited to do this. One of the advantages of PBEM is your opponent doesn't have to be online when you make your turn.

The main problem is when an opponent is required to make a decision during your turn (such as using side step or an apothecary). Otherwise you could already use the client pretty much in the way you are asking.

As a half way measure (as I think the apo point would runi turn based play) I would be very keen on somehow playing part of a game (maybe a half). This would help fit it into lunch hours. If I don't have 70 minutes or so I can't start a game because I don't want the other guy toget cross if I have to go just before the end.

Before Fishbowl it was easy to say 'Sure I could play but may need to take 15 to give a bottle half way'. Now that's harder, but plenty of fumbblers are still very understanding about stuff like that. I've previously played games in halves due to limited coach or server availablility, and this wasn't an issue.
