Blitz 'Dem - GDR Edition #2; Issue #2

'Blitz 'Dem', the preeminent periodical for all things Blood Bowl, having been published by diligent grotz since 1964 IC, brings you the key facts from the opening Gameweek of the inaugural season of the Greenskins Draft Rumble.

= GAMEWEEK 2 ROUND-UP =
As coaches find their play styles and scouting knowledge of each other grows, the match-ups were more cautious, more cagey, this week with few stand-out individual performances. Instead we witnessed some solid team work by those sometimes unreliable greenskins.

= STAR PLAYER POINTS =
There were three players who recorded more than 5 SPP:

6 SPP - ★ Dazlug Mudshredda ★ (Altdorf Bloodhounds); Borug Fangclaw (Badlands Black Feathers)
7 SPP - Skogg Eargrinda (Mount Gunbad Big 'Uns)

= CASUALTIES =
Different week, same outcome. The mortuaries and hospitals of the Old World had little work to do this week, proving to cynics that the GDR is not just some mindless bash league. Although, coaches, please don't let that discourage you!

= BLOCKS =
In line with the lack of mortalities or permanent injuries, there were just two stand-out blockers this week, both racking up an impressive 14 hits.

14 blocks - Dakkul Beastmaw (Nordland Skullsmasherz); Grash Bonechewer (Badlands Black Feathers)

= TOUCHDOWNS =
Just one player scored more than once this week and it's a not new name for the pages of this auspicious publication. In a thoroughly one-sided affair, the Marquee Player of the Altdorf Bloodhounds made an impact with two scores, adding to his TD and casualty on debut last week.

2 touchdowns - ★ Dazlug Mudshredda ★ (Altdorf Bloodhounds)

= FOULS =
A fantastic spread of deviousness and criminality with 7 different teams committing to the delightful addition of a true 'Heel' to appease their fans' desire for blood and unsportsmanlike conduct.

2 fouls - Slugg Bonekrakka (Dragonback Squigs); Skabzit Mudspitta (Nordland Skullsmasherz); Skrag Maggotsniffer (Karak Norn Crusherz); Yargob Stabsquig (Badlands Black Feathers); Ivel (Bretonnian Brutes); Ruzkit the Menace (Averland Bat-Squigs)
3 fouls - Gobzig Webgutz (Altdorf Bloodhounds)

= RUSHING YARDS =
Does this signal a shift in coaching styles, unseen since Goran Slaver first picked a Trollslayer for the Middenheim Marauders or 'Pogo' Doomspider of the Lowdown Rats introduced his team of slippery foulers to the concept of ball-handling? The normally agile wide receivers or running backs of the league have been shut down this week with some very capable coaching...

19 yards - Orzog Shugdurbam (Nordland Skullsmasherz); Undying (Iron Crag Claws)
24 yards - Krenko King of the Goblins (Mount Gunbad Big 'Uns); Naomi Miattraddi (Tilean Sea Piratz)
39 yards - ★ Dazlug Mudshredda ★ (Altdorf Bloodhounds)

= PASSING YARDS =
Just one quarterback is really racking up the yards this week. The Crusherz now have a total of 8 yards from two players and their passing play style could help them stand out compared to those teams whose efforts are more ground-based.

5 yards - Thugbo Skulltaker (Karak Norn Crusherz)

= AWARD WINNERS =
Each Gameweek, there will be awards for some notable players and coaches:

MVP
★ Dazlug Mudshredda ★ appears three times in the records this week with a dominant display in the mauling of the 'Ardboyz. While the hosts may have suffered a truly awful day at the office, Mudshredda took full advantage and it was unexpected that he was not awarded MVP by his teammates.

Golden Clipboard
Rijssiej (Nordland Skull Smasherz)
Whilst Coach Redoubt has a strong case to earn two Golden Clipboards in a row, Coach Rijssiej has steered his team to consecutive 2-1 wins, despite losing his MVP last season and coming up short in the Champions Cup Final. A T8 touchdown very nearly didn't happen after a turnover in the previous turn. Despite being short of two injured players, Coach Ritzi equalised late in the second half, but the Skull Smasherz had just enough time to score a 2-turn winner before the umpire wound the clock back and they had to protect their lead. There are just 3 teams with an unbeaten record and two of them were runners-up in last year's post-season cups.

MATCHSCORESCORERS
Drakwald 'Ardboyz0---
Altdorf Bloodhounds3★ Dazlug Mudshredda ★ x2, Zogz Bloodgnasha
For two weeks in a row, a disappointing performance from the 'Ardboyz has been punished by a ruthless opponent. 11 turnovers for the 'Ardboyz. 4 KOs and a casualty in the first 3 turns for the hosts. The Bloodhounds out blocked, out ran, out fouled, and out scored their opponents with aplomb. The new pups on the block now have a 2-0-0 record and should be considered a serious threat.
= IN MEMORIAM =
For every winner, there must be a loser and, to give them their (final) moment in the limelight, we recognise those players who left us this week:

‣ Charlotte Ieli (Badlands Black Feathers) - in the seventh game of her career, the promising Big 'Un Blocker, nicknamed 'Flower', was removed from the sport and from life. The only flowers she will be receiving will be atop her grave.
‣ Gruff Guzzler (Badlands Black Feathers) - the rookie Blitzer, whose impact on the league was effectively none, has the inauspicious honour of being part of the first match of Season II in which one team has suffered two deaths.
