Halflings are not natural Blood Bowl players. Slow, weak, fragile, their only saving grace is their uncanny ability to evade danger. An ability equally matched by the Dwarven knack for dragging them back into it.

Tired of suffering years of abuse at the hands of Dwarves, the natives of the Moot decided that it was time for revenge. Waiting until a small Dwarven wedding had spent 3 days drinking themselves into a stupor, they kidnapped the unconcious guests.

They then gave their captives an ultimatum. The Dwarves would be divided into teams, and would be forced to play Blood Bowl against local Halfling teams for the amusement of the townsfolk. Any survivors would earn the right to go free.

Welcome to The Gauntlet.

The premise of the league is simple. Each coach will make a rookie Dwarf team, which will then play against rookie Halfling teams from the other players in the league until the set number of games is reached.

Since the Dwarves have no outside sources of manpower, no players may be bought beyond the starting ones. This means no replacements, no Freebooters, and no Stars.

Being in such a hostile environment, each Dwarf team can only start with 1 Fan Factor, though later on some Halflings may grudgingly begin to cheer on their hated foes.

The Dwarfs may not throw away money, as this goes against the very core of being a Dwarf. Nothing on their roster may ever be discarded.

Lacking the normal specialists found in Dwarven society, the Dwarfs may not hire Runesmiths or Apothecaries. They also may not hire Coaches or Cheerleaders.

Each coach in the league must also make a new Halfing team for each match, and will be coaching Halfings once vs every Dwarf team. Halfling teams must be retired after each match. Halfling teams do NOT need to join the league in order to play games, as long as they meet the following criteria:

Halfings must start with 9 FF.

Halflings cannot use Freebooters, you must buy all your players.

Stars are allowed, as are Chefs.

To save time, this is the default Halfling team, but feel free to create your own variation:
13 Halflings
2 Treemen
Deeproot
9 FF
Apothecary
7 extra Chefs
2 Assistant Coaches

After each Dwarf team has played Halflings 8 times, the season will be over. At this point, the team with the most points wins.

Scoring will be 1 point for each game won, and 1 point for each surviving Dwarf. This means the Halflings only need to tie to deny the Dwarves a point. Yes, it's meant to be unfair.

In case of a tie, the tiebreaker will go to the team with the most surviving Dwarves. If there is still a tie, then the team with the fewest permanent injuries wins. If that also fails, I'll come up with something completely arbitrary but along similar lines.

At the end of the season, there will also be informal awards to be nominated by the players. Things such as 'Most Nuffled', 'Foulingest Flings', 'Lumberjacking', and 'Richest Dwarves'.

There is no fixed schedule for this league. Since it's a round-robin format, and one of the teams in each match will always be a rookie team, scheduling doesn't matter.

As long as you play each other coach no more than once with Dwarves and once with Halflings, simply play who you can, when you can.

Since each match requires me to approve a new team, and there's no way to track those one-shot teams in the league anyway, I'm changing the system slightly. In order to cut down on delays, Halfling teams will no longer require approval. Just double-check your opponent's team before each match, making sure that it's:

A new team.
In [L].
Has 9 FF.
Has no Freebooters.

I suggest using your Dwarf team bio to keep track of which coaches you've played (both Dwarves and Halflings), and to mention any amusing or noteworthy results.

NO CONCESSIONS ALLOWED!

Regardless of the number of players, season 1 of The Gauntlet will end when each Dwarf team has played 8 games. At the end of the season, I'll go over the rosters and calculate the scores.

If this season goes well, I've already got some ideas for the sequel. It's still tentative, but Dwarves will probably be allowed replacements in season 2. They'll need them, since they'll be facing Goblin Cheaters. :)

<strike>Scores are current standings as of Dec 3rd at 10 AM. Scores will be updated intermittently. I included the effect of injuries by adding a 3rd digit to the scores so that they show tiebreakers.
