Ahhh the Conferences. The smell of the beer, the sound of children, the sight of blood...

SWL Season 13 began with a tough 3-3 all draw against the Fast Fossils, a team certainly on the rise. Germany have historically struggled against against strong teams (Lizards, Chaos, Orcs, Chaos Dwarves), and were today happy to avoid a loss against the big angry mob of lizards.

Twahnlow Votes:
3 - Drysd: The big Lizard with the annoying tail. Germany spent alot of time trying to move around the Big Guy, and would have had a much more pleasant outing had he not been there.

2 - Ratpoker: Scored twice, took up the mantle of ball runner in the absence of Balljuggler, and did a damn fine job.

1 - Vugdish II: Threw more blocks than any other lizard, and gave German fans a scare with a crunching block on Otto von Bismarck, who owes his health to the quick work of the Doktor.

Well done coach Symmetrical in keeping us on the hop for the full 17 turns of this match. The fact that the Fossils 1st move in turn 1 was Erool dodging and falling (twit though he had Break tackle) allowed the German Vermin to score without the Fossils laying a claw on them.

The rest of the 1st half was a slow grind for the Fossils, and the GV defense stood firm till the very end when in turn 8 Ratpoker squeezed through to the endzone to receive a longpass (short for anyone else) from Balldrinker II for the equaliser.

The 2nd half started with a more typical running TD by the Fossils, with the 3rd turn highlight being Ratpoker’s blitz on the much more fancied Matt Tinsen (who did his own fair share of blitzing and burying fossils).

But “fat finger” struck coach ArtaXerxes again on the GV offensive as this time Vugdish II tried to dodge of (and into) a TZ before the defensive blocks had started. Coach ArtaXerxes was pulling the scales off his head with the woeful defence shown here at the start of the season.

The weather had turned harsh and Otto von Bismarck couldn’t stand the heat, easinbg the way for the Fossils to take a 3-2 lead in the 16th turn. And the GV don’t have a one turner for their 16th, so all is safe right? Wrong! The 3rd umpire rushed out on to the field to correct a timing issue, and injury time gave the GV 2 turns to equalise 3-3. The Fossil’s fans were dumbfounded with a draw from a game that could easily have been won by either team.

Twahnlow Votes:
3 - Albert Speer for great tactical fouling, removing the star Vrool in turn 6 of the first turn.
2 - Colonel Klink for key blitzes and defensive use of tackle skill
1 - Matt Tinsen for strategic (and persistent) blitzes.
