Warpstone Open Semi-Final!

Facing a 80 STR bigger Wood Elf team, da Gitz thought it would be their last appearance in the Warpstone Open, and it was...

The rain started pouring down on the record crowd of 180.000 right from the start, and didn't stop for the whole game. The Junkies received first and scored easily in 3 turns, taking their time. Da Gitz then set up in their usual fashion, with Blitzer Nazdrag setting his sights for star Catcher Dodger Strangelove. Nazdrag failed to bring Dodger down however, and da Gitz failed the pickup. Not a good start. The Junkies swarmed towards the ball, cutting off the centerfield, and da Gitz were in trouble. Agile Lineorc Qlud made a desperate attempt to bring the ball upfield, but failed. The Elves could steal the ball and score, making it 2-0.

Da Gitz tried again, this time getting the ball across the LOS in a semi-cage. The cage was set up in anticipation of an elven fireball and the most agile orc had the ball, but the elven wizard was clearly one of the finest, as all targets went down anyway. The elves failed the hand-off for another score after that. 2-0 at halftime and no injured elves, as the orcs seemed to be hitting like... elves. Things did not look good for da Gitz.

2nd half started with a bad cage for da Gitz, that the elves could exploit. The ball was popped and after some shuffling the Junkies emerged from the LOS brawl with the ball in hand. The orcs could bring the carrier down, but the elves just recovered the ball again and moved towards a TD. A lightning bolt brought the carrier down a second time, but the elves still protected the ball. Da Gitz fought desperately to take the ball back, but did not have any luck with the bounces, and the Junkies could score 3-0 in turn 5. Somewhere in there Dodger was killed by a foul and apo'd.

That was game. FischerKing set up his niggled Catcher on the LOS and I said "How about I retire that niggler for ya?". POW! Beregon Bloodflame has been KILLED! :)

Good game FischerKing, you deserved to win. Good luck in the final. I have been very lucky to get this far and I'm happy with the performance of da Gitz. Next time I play the Junkies (or any other super-fast team) I'll keep more players back to protect the ball at kick-off, even if it means I can't blitz the juiciest target. :) See you all in the Ulthuan!
