“"Winning Ugly"

'flings give up 2 handicaps: Buzzing (on a mummy, of course) and Greatest (which means my kicker gets to sit this one out in favor of a tree).

1st half: Ball is kicked back to the goalline and several turns of reroll-less ghoul repeatedly muffing the pickup is matched by 'flings failing 8in9 dodges or being dropped during anxious TTM attempts. Undead finally get the ball moving forward and make a break for the open to their right side. A lone 'fling dodges free and blitzes the ghoul against the sideline. Undead fail a block and a 'sideline party' ensues. 1st the ghoul and ball go surfing (niggling injury), then the frenzied mummy gets pushed onto the bench, and then a wright joins him. Drive/half over. 0-0.

2nd half: 'flings recieve in the aftermath of a pitch invasion that levels the entire right side of the Undead defense. A diving catch is actually made in the effort to move the ball forward and the 'flings make every needed dodge to move the ball to the endzone in 4 turns. Along the way we boot a ghoul into the ko box in retaliation for a 1st half foul. 1-0.

Undead receive again, pick up the ball with no problems, and sweep right against a shorthanded 'fling defense huddled in the middle of the pitch. A blitzer stuns himself at the feet of the ghoul 7 steps from the endzone. Undead decide to sneak in a foul on a line'fling but are spotted by the ref leaving the ghoul still in scoring range with his cheese hanging out in the wind. 'fling make 4 dodges to mark and blitz the ghoul back one step and angled to the sideline. Undead swarm to the rescue but are unable to knock down the marker 'fling. With everyone marked a str3 'fling stands up, dodges into the middle of the scrum, and sends the ghoul and the ball surfing with a 1-die block. 'flings dodge out, pick up the ball, survive a blitz, and dodge away again to execute a 'punt' and secure the win.

Key to this game was definitely the insane dodging success late in the 2nd half.

Chuckle moment: Had to be the frenzied mummy pushing around a sidestepping 'fling on 3-die blocks only to be left pinned against the sideline for a surfing lesson.

Post Game: Fan factor goes up. Also, our one skill roll gave a 'fling +AG - prepare to be launched on a regular basis little fellow!”
