Well this game was a farce really. My opponent started on offence and had a player stunned by a rock. He then did not get very far before I knocked out one player, and then another. His Mighty Blow (from Dusters) did stun my Wardancer preventing a possible 2nd turn steal and score.

My opponent had some cruddy luck (though failing Dauntless against a Treeman is not super unlucky) but then his Blodger Thrower survived a two dice Blitz with Tackle, and then another 2 dice block.

Next turn my opponent has an early snakes trying to protect his ball carrier.

I play nice and try not to OOB his Thrower. The Thrower survives a 2 dice hit with Tackle. Then a 2 dice Blitz rerolled. Finally I had to 3+ dodge to set up an out of bounds play on him. That Thrower survived 8 dice of Tackle hits and 2 dice of no normal blocks - worse than snake-eyes.

Anyways, the ball was tossed into an unfriendly spot for the Guardians, and the Templars recovered it, only to have the pass intercepted by the Guardians' Treeman!

The Guardians blitzed forward with their Treeman and formed a cage around him before setting up a score to take a 1-0 lead.

The Templars received and got Quick Snap, but then had some difficulty getting players deep. Only two players were in scoring range. The Guardians used their last reroll to buy a pow on one of them causing a stun, and then put two Diving Tacklers on the remaining player in range.

The Templars blitzed away one Diving Tackler, but then dropped the 3+ catch (team RR failed).

Second half, the Guardians got a Quick Snap and after some effective blocks, caged the ball on the sidelines. The Templars put pressure on the cage, but the Guardians were able to leap and dodge with their ball carrier to set up a quick pass to a Catcher (the Wardancer could have scored but I wanted to spread the SPP). Snake eyes.

The Templars blitz the Guardians Wardancer and he sidesteps onto the ball, and the ball lands on the Blitzing Witch Elf and she catches the ball.

Then a combination of bad luck and tired (3 AM) play by the Guardians. The Witch is blitzed, but 4 dice do not get a Pow or Dodge/Pow and she is still standing. Then my tired stupid move. I did not see the Witch had AG5 and Leap and put 3 players around her, instead of sending one of the Diving Tackler players back to cover the potential scorer for the Templars. Sure enough, a simple 2+ leap and 2+ pass and 2+ catch and 2+ GFI and it is a tied game.

Four turns and four rerolls used (1 was to pick up the ball on turn 1, another used on the pass snake eyes, a third used on the Blitz and not sure where the fourth went).

The Guardians lined up on offence and a pitch invasion left one wing quite open. However, I roll another snake-eyes trying to pick up the ball.

My opponent blitzes the Catcher and knocks him down and takes the ball deep.

The Guardians set up a 2 dice blitz on the ball carrier with a GFI. 2 dice and yet again, no Pow or Dodge/Pow. All up, I had 12 dice worth of Tackle hits on his Blodge ball carriers today plus another 2 dice without Tackle and I did not get a knock down. Chance of that happening? 1 in 187... (2/3^12 x 5/6 x 5/6). Not my day...

The Templars set up a two dice blitz and force their way to the end zone for a 2-1 lead.

The Guardians have two turns left. They send some players deep and try to pick up the ball and get the obligatory 1.

The Templars apply the pressure but the Guardians set up a 2 dice blitz to get a player to the end zone. They Dodge (with reroll) and pick up the ball, handing it off to a Catcher who then runs deep and attempts a short pass to tie the game. Needing 3+ and 2+, the pass is missed (a 2) and the Templars win.

Congratulations to my opponent who was a good and sporting coach.

Unfortunately, this game was totally marred (from my side anyway) by obscene luck. Whilst we both had some bad luck, with my opponent getting a fair bit in the first half, it is pretty clear that I had a lot of more of the bad luck and at much worse times. Twice I rolled snakes on the ball to end up conceding a TD. 12 Tackle dice on the ball carrier (plus another 2 non Tackle dice) and I could not get a Pow or Dodge/Pow (or Pow with the non Tackle dice).

Then the 1 to pick up on turn 7 so that my Thrower was not in a position to run in for a shorter pass himself. Then the failed 3+ pass...

Just not my game today.

My opponent did suffer some bad luck early, eg the three KOs and the interception, but Smelling Salts brought all 3 of them back, and I was unlucky to not knock the ball carrier down earlier and score way before the unlucky interception was possible.

Oh well, just a FF loss and some money so not the end of the world, but just one win out of the last 9 games with crap luck being a major part in most of the games is pretting tiresome.

Anyways, I wish my opponent luck with his team and look forward to a rematch someday.
