“An exciting game, indeed!

Neither team got much luck from Nuffle, but both kept plugging along. The initial Dorfchen Dodgers drive met heavy resistance from the Brickhouse Bruisers, finally managing to score on turn 7 of the first half. Rowdy fans with rocks disrupted the next kick-off, sending four Brickhouse Ogres and three Dodgers, including Ogre Thog Facemangler, to the turf with little birdies over their heads. The Bruisers were able to take advantage of the confusion when agile ogre Grunt Grimm hurled the plucky Sluggy "Fastball" Crud over the heads of the Dodgers for a quick score to tie the game at 1-1.

The 2nd turn kickoff to the Bruisers degenerated into a donnybrook at midfield with both teams trying to gain control of the bouncing ball. On turn 3, Dodgers hurler Gui "The Arrow" Orteel bravely sprinted into the midst of the fray to snatch up the ball and throw a beautiful pass to stead-fast blitzer Manfred Blackcairn. When Bruisers' ogre Grunt Grimm failed a blitz on Blackcairn, the human hero ran the ball in on turn 4 to give the Dodgers the 2-1 lead.

On the next kick-off, a quick snap by the Bruisers failed to catch the Dodgers off-guard. In fact, the complicated play confused many of the Bruisers' own ogres, leaving them standing dazed mid-field, as Dodgers ran by. Goblins Fester N. Lester and Sluggy "Fastball" Crud were left far in the backfield to face the onrushing tide of defenders. Lester's quick feet managed to keep the ball in Bruisers' control for a few turns, but then a botched hand-off to Crud was followed by a devastating blitz from the Dodgers' Blackcairn, sending Lester to the KO box. On the Bruisers' turn 8, lone gobbo Crud was then left surrounded by four Dodgers only five paces from the Dodgers own endzone, the ball lying in two of the Dodgers' tacklezones one square away. When a relief blitz by the Bruisers' mighty ogre Zuggy Smirk failed to budge Manfred Blackcairn, Sluggy "Fastball" Crud made a desperation play that may go down in FUMBBL history! He dodged from three Dodgers' tackle zones into two, picking up the ball at the feet of Blackcairn, dodging back into three tackle zones, then into one, then out, then handed off the ball to fellow Bruisers gob Scab Muckdingle, who himself was about to be squished by human blitzer Jost Adelhof. Ogre Grunt Grimm was able to overcome his amazement at Crud's miraculous luck long enough to rush over and pick up Muckdingle and hurl him across the field (in his excitement, Grimm threw Muckdingle a little further than he meant to). Muckdingle landed like a cat, however, and then rushed into the endzone to tie the game at 2-2 and force things into sudden-death overtime. In OT, the determined Dodgers were able to score first after 3 turns of hard-nosed, hard-fought Blood Bowl.
