#4 Araldar Summersong – Broken Ribs (MNG)
#4 Araldar Summersong – Smashed Hip (-MA)
GLT II Quarterfinal Match!
------------
Handicaps were -

I Am the Greatest
Morley's Revenge (on 1 Catcher)
Bribe the Ref2
Smelling Salts
Duh Where Am I (put on my Str3 Wardancer as I guess Sandune intended to take out my Str5 AV6 Wardancer ASAP!)
-------------
What a game. The Horde started strong with the ball, knocking out the Guardians Treeman and advancing the ball.

The Guardians fouled first, KOing a Mighty Blow Tackle Black Orc Blocker.

The Horde brought the ball up and caused a RIP (apothed) with their first foul. OUCH OUCH OUCH!

With 4 players in a 3x3, the Guardians used their fireball, knocking 3 of them over (including the ball carrier). The ball was next to a Blitzer. The Guardians could get to the ball easily if they could only get some pows. Many many blocks later and no progress thanks to Sandune's Stand Firm!!!

So it was up to some 3+ dodges with Dodge reroll to blitz through and knock over the Horde Blitzer, then pick up the ball and run out of range of any Horde players.

The rest of the half became a tactical battle. The Guardians holding the ball deep whilst they screened away any tacklers who could reach whilst the Horde tried to get to the ball carrier.

The Guardians had some great luck, causing two badly hurts on Tackle Blitzers that half and knocking out another tackler with a foul. The Horde kept blitzing with their Mighty Blow Tackle Blitzer but could not do any damage.

The Guardians ran the clock down and scored on turn 7.

Both Horde players came back (smelling salts or natural 4+s I can't recall) but only 1 of 3 KOd Guardians returned.

With just one turn, the Guardians put on three expendible players on the LOS, one of which was their Str4 AG5 Thrower who had a niggle and he took a -MA. Not devastating overall since he was a niggler anyway, but he would have been useful next game...

The Guardians with theif final turn went for a Bltiz foul on a Black Ork Blocker. The sick and sleep deprived head coach (me) made it a one dice blitz instead of a two because he changed his mind about the push direction mid way through the move and then did not have an assist to help out. Anyway, a one dice block (Skull/Pow?) was rerolled into a Pow and caused a RIP, apoth fail! Harsh harsh luck for Sandune there.

Second half the Guardians started in offence and their fans celebrated by killing the refereee!!! The Guardians were unhappy with their starting blocks, getting only two knockdowns despite plenty of blocks (about 5 or 6). However, their foul was lethal, killing another Black Ork Blocker!

The Horde attacked back, but their foul only caused a stun.

The Guardians pushed down the right wing, and after the Horde followed them, pushed down the left wing with a second wave of players. Surviving another foul each, the Guardians then caused a niggling injury to one of the Horde's dirty players and badly hurt another.

Meanwhile, the Guaridans monstrosity Caldoris Thundercall (Str 5 Wardancer) was sleeping in the KO box after being hit by a lightning bolt and he took no further part in the game.

The Horde injury box was filling up fast and they did not have the speed or players to cover all the scoring threats and the Guardians scored with a 2+ dodge, 2+ pass (with Pass skill), 2+ catch and 2+ hand off to a Catcher (2+ with reroll).

At 2-0 up and only 4-5? turns left for the Horde it looked like an uphill battle for the Horde who could only field 10 in offence.

Thinking of the next round, the Guardians focused on damage control rather than stopping ths score, trying to hit the Mighty Blow tackle players and fouling them out of the game so they could not do any more damage.

The Horde who were outnumbered caused a MNG injury with a block and focusing on trying to score for honor's sake were restricted with their hitting options as they needed to cage the ball.

On the final turn, the Horde had an easy TD and scored without doing any turn 8 blocks.

Well what can I say. Sandune had the early luck with a Quick Snap and lots of pows and KOing my Tree. But after that, the luck was pretty much one sided though I did use a lot of rerolls to buy pows. My armour/injury rolls were incredible, causing 5 casualties with fouls. My one dice pow RIP of his Black Ork Blocker would have happened anyway if I had brought in the assist and gotten two dice (as the rerolled block would have been part of the two dice block) but it was still quite lucky and very unfortunate for Sandune to fail with his apothecary.

The only bad luck I can moan about is that my suffered injures were two SI (one a -MA) and a RIP with no BH. Then again, Sandune suffered 3/2/2 and an apoth fail so he got far worse and he did not complain at all.

He really was a class opponent. No whinging or whining about how I did not fail a GFI or important dodge (the only things I failed were getting pushes or skull/pows on a few two dice blocks where I really needed a pow to help free up my players).

I wish Sandune a good recovery with his team. Despite being the one who wrecked it, I bear him or his team no malice, I just play hard when it comes to tournies. He is one great sporting coach and I hope to see him around the ranked tournaments some more.
