Royal Rookie Rumble XLVIII Final
-----------------------------------------------
The final of the Rookie Rumble was between two bashy teams. One that relied on strength, and another one that relied on skill. My hopes for victory weren't high. The Geckos have a very risky team build-up, with only one reroll, and I faced dwarves with 100 % block and plenty of tackle, Fumbbl's best ranked coach and he had also managed to save funds for buying both Zara the Slayer and Grim Ironjaw.

I had saved cash for Silibili, so it was a two rather professional rookie teams that battled it out for the glory of winning the tournament.

I got the kickoff and Smess got a perfect defense, forcing me to rely on a slow paced scoring attempt. A bad kick enabled me to put the ball in the hands of a Saurus, but despite changing flanks a couple of times it was just no way to outmaneuver the dwarves. My dp skink got in a couple of timed gang fouls, but they didn't lead to more than stuns, and when the ref didn't take him off the pitch a dwarf blitz took care of him. First halv ended in a somewhat desperate run by the saurus, and I got a half-bad chance of scoring when I could attempt a 1 die block on the sole dwarf interceptor. I rolled skull though, and now faced the tough job of defending against the dwarves with only 1 reroll and only 1 player with block.

It was in the start of 2nd half I did my biggest mistake. I got a perfect kickoff and instead of spreading out my sauruses to cut the opponent off I beefed up the LOS. This trapped most of my bashy guys and gave Smess the chance to outflank me. He managed a TD in the 4th turn without much trouble.

I had a fair chance of tieing the match when Smess expected a moving cage but instead faced an all out right flank 2 turn TD rush. Sadly the dices failed me at the end of the match, and I missed the crucial blocks.

All in all neither side outlucke the other though, and my loss can't be blamed on anything else than that the other team and coach were better. I'm pleased with the effort since I wasn't outclassed in any way and could have brought the match to OT, and I did convince Smess that a coach as skilled as him shouldn't play lame ass dwarves in RRR tournaments ;P

Cognrats to winning the tournament Smess. I hope to get revenge sometime in the future! :)
