XFL Undead - Quarter Final

This game turned out to be a good game again. Herrscher und Generäle got a good handicap - Virus - which took out their ST4 Ghoul and started on defence.
After a miserable first turn, our team could slow down the offence and get one Mummy out.
We did some casualities, which all were regenerated.
It didn't took much to get the ball, but the Pick Up failed, on the 2nd attempt the Dodge to Pick Up failed (both with Re-Roll), and so it was 0:0 after 8 turns.

In the 2nd half, the luck changed and we weren't able to do any serious knockouts plus having 1 Mummy and 2 Ghouls sitting on the bench.
With a little trick, Drogolodytes put their best players in the upper half of the field, which enabled us to build a small cage at the 7th turn.
A Blitz of their ST6 Mummy didn't give the needed POW, so we were able to score at the next turn.
At the 8th turn, their Ghoul failed a Dodge (but would have to go 2 time for it and throw a 1d only), and we had Sure Feet and 9 squares in front to win.
There the Snakes came.

OT:
Our knocked out players didn't recovery, we started on defence, and the moral sunk a bit.
Thankfully a mistake by Purplegoo, leaving the Mummy free to Blitz (AV 8!), brought us at the 2nd turn in strength advantage.
Our blocks were more successfully than them of the Drogolodytes, so we used our last reroll to get the ball.
That worked and the opponent couldn't recover from that, they had to take risky movements to break free.

In the end it was a hard fought 1:0, which could already be done after 16 turns, but Nuffle wanted us to fight 8 more turns.

Thanks Purplegoo for this good match.

#9 'F' Wells – Broken Ribs (MNG)
#9 'F' Wells – Smashed Knee (NI)
An accurate report from Dom, it was rather a feeling of a missed opportunity for the myself and the Drogoldytes.

With the XFL shaping up as it is, there looks to be no stand-out best team (although perhaps the famous Clint Eastwood Roles V Dead Bunnies United would be the savvy pick for the final - but they aren't far and away the best sides in it), and whilst I had no thoughts on winning the tournament, it would have been nice to advance a little further, and have that chance.

Dom's roll of a Virus robbed me of my best Ghoul, and my ag4 one was already mng, so it left me with a bit of a hill to climb, as whilst I felt my positional players were superior to Dom's, my Zombie foot soldiers were in the most part unskilled and not up to the task.

1st half - Dom is right. I had thought carefully about tactics before the game, and watched several replays of Dom's side, and seen he likes to attack the Mummies when against Undead. My plan on receiving was not to try and score quickly, as could be done with Undead, but to grind a long drive and upset his game plan, by going after his Mummies. The dice started plain awful, and the tables turned. Only a lucky sequence towards the end of the half enabled me to end at 0-0.

2nd half - I had 10 players against 11, and I felt the writing was on the wall somewhat. Even so, I battled and managed to force a GFI attempt in turn 15, which Dom failed.

When OT started, and I had 9 V 9 players (thanks to Nuffle on KO rolls), 2 V 1 Re-rolls, and I was receiving, I felt like the tide had turned, and my 16 turns of being players behind, and simply doing a spoiling job were behind me, and I actually had a chance of winning the game. Again, I chose the grind instead of the quick strike, and again it did not pan out very well. I thought I played quite poorly in OT, I forgot Doms ma 4 Mummy, and allowed him a 1 db at my ball carrier. None-the-less, he only got some pushes, and the blitz ended up -2db. Needless to say, it worked, and my remaining turns all ended with failed dodges, or failed GFI's, and we ended at 1-0.

I guess I should be happy that I managed to hold Dom with less players than he had for 15 turns, and I wish him all the best in the rest of the tournament. Hopefully, with more FUMBBL experience under my belt, the Drogolodytes will be back for the next XFL.
