#5 Selfhugger – Broken Neck (-AG)
#13 Psychedelic Groover – Smashed Hip (-MA)
Interesting game. Mithrilpoint made the most mistakes, but as he stated in his report the game wasnt about mistakes. It was about the performance of my "freaks". They performed as they should on an average game. Problem is this wasnt an average game. 4 or 5 times I was one dice from winning the game before the overtime and the players got too few. 4 or 5 times a 1 or a skull allowed him to continue.
Now my ball eating War Dancer is less of a threat and my theory of turnovers = half the team gone has been proven once again.

What a garme!

I logged on late saturday night, just looking for a game or two and a friendly chat when i saw the Warpstone Open was looking for coaches for a qualifier. I had written that tournament off as i don't really have the time for it and missed the initial deadline. But i decided to take my best team (and thats not saying much) and give them a whirl despite not having great experience with humans.

An hour or two later i was drawn to play against Leniyuhls Wood Elf, featuring not one, but two freaks! Run from the Violent, a NOS natural oneturner and Psychedelic Groover, a blodging, leaping, strip ball' ing, st4 ag5 pass blocking wardancer. More about those later.

My handicap was virus, taking opponents thrower out of the game - a great start.

Opponent started out with the ball, got quick snap and easily ran a TD in with the oneturner. I expected that much but what i didn't expect was the aggressive defense led by the wardancerfreak. I lack enough guard to keep the cage safe so he basically had a 1db on my thrower every turn with leap and it paid off bigtime. My game plan was spoiled by some bad dispositions and skulls on the dice and i soon found myself down 0-2, not having hurt a single elf. I lined up again, now with a new gameplan in mind.

Hurt the freaks!

Aye, not the most brilliant mindset i agree but i could not for the life of me figure out how to stop the oneturner, and either way - even IF i could make 2 for 0 in the remaining part of the game only luck could keep his oneturner from scoring the last one in turn 16 ,robbing me off the game.

So a rather strange half followed, half my team hunting freaks and maximizing blocks, half my team desperately keeping my half-a-cage running.

By sheer luck i managed to not only score in turn 8, but also to inflict enough pain on his team (not the two freaks, those were still there) that he had only 7 players for the sacond half. I was pleased but still had that nagging feeling that if i didn't shape up i would lose this one. I had not been playing optimally (misplacing guards, selecting blitz instead of block etc.) and that needed to stop .

Second half i played pretty much by the book, fouling his tree out and sending a hit squad after his oneturner. Allthough he continued his leaping attacks on my cage with the WD-freak i managed to keep the ball safe and slowly grinded down the field. More mistakes from me opened up for 1dbs on the ballcarrier and even a single 2db, but i managed to recover every time.

The Freak Hunt

Jeremiah took it upon him to hunt down the oneturner as we figured the WD would come to us. And we were right. In turn 5 we niggled the oneturner on a beautiful block, apo was used and so we had little time to repeat the offense. It happened in turn 7, a foul assisted by 2 man meant that my ballcarrier was free for a 2db close to his End Zone , The foul on the oneturning freak was BH but opponenet managed - with a total of 4 gfi, numerous dodges etc (but hey, thats what elves do) to knock the ball loose but failed the final 3+ dodge to scoop it up, fell and knocked himself out did he that wardancer, didn't he my precious? Yes he did, he really did. Deferr the team destroyer (named after a coach that once mauled me for 16 turns while apologizing for every foul) grabbed the ball and moonwalked it in for the equalizer. The freak wardancer was still around though, but no oneturner and too few elves for a push-oneturner.

Overtime.

I was randomly chosen to recieve (yay!)and set up with the same game plan (hurt catchers and freakish wardancers, score in 8th) and it went beautifully right, was saved by opponents bad dice few times but i was never in any real danger in the Overtime.

A foul on his freak WD caused -ma in turn 5 after 3 consecutive fouls only stunning him. I needed to keep him grounded as that was the easiest way to keep him from running beserk inmy cage. Opponent had 4 elves standing when i ran it in in turn 8 and could not attempt a oneturner.

Thanks for the game Leniyuhl.
