Red Devil Legends 2-0 Amsterdam Amazons

Well tonight a hard fought game was played between too agile sides, and tactically it was fascinating. Both coaches were playing a very positional game trying to outmanovre the other and gain oppertunities to use the ball or take the ball.

The High Elves received first and using a typical "get as many people in to the back field as possible" approach blitzed through the zon line and gave the zons plenty of choices to make on the following blitz action. The pass worked and the TD was scored.

The Zons then received and caged their way up the field a bit, but found the two High Elf catchers a very difficult prospect with the Blodge+Sidestep combo. The half petered out in a scrap for the ball.

In the second half the Zons again tried to cage their way up field, but the High Elf movement and pace meant that they were able to keep rebuilding the wall and tackle zones around the cage, slowing the Zons down. In their final turn the Zons made a dash for it but a failed dodge into a tackle zone spilled the ball, and the ever present George Best collected the ball and released it down field for Ray Wilkins to score.

Whilst the scoreline was 2-0 it did not reflect the tightness of the game. The high Elves are now left in limbo with regards the Cavelier title as they are unaware if the ZUZ Lizards are going to play their remaining fixtures.

We'll let coach Prasomchai sum this one up:

"Both teams sauntered into this game knowing they'd already made the playoffs, and it showed, with a lot of unforced mistakes throughout the match.

On the surface things appeared very close, and indeed my girls had an outside chance of a late game-tying touchdown, but I felt that we were always a skill or two away from having a real chance of taking this team on. A couple of tacklers in particular would have made a huge difference.

So, overall, I was pleased with the way we played, but would have preferred 1-0 to 2-0! To think of how quickly our potential score went against us!

But, most importantly, Russie and I are now tied at three games apiece- so the rivalry deepens there!"
